With a comment like this, no wonder it will be hard for him and his family.

Learn to save a little Josh.    You should be extremely comfortable just living off plain interest made from your savings account

What the heck, this is complete non-news.

He says it will be HARDER on his family, not hard on his family.

In fact, he sounds completely humble, the quote saying his decision is going to affect both him AND his family.

Josh Smith is the furthest thing from a vet. min. player.

Players of his caliber are easily making 10+ mil.

He could have played somewhere else for way more money, but chose to play where he wanted, despite the fact that it wasn't the best decision for his family.

Sounds 1000% more like an apology to his family than Josh Smith acting spoiled.

Please stop taking quotes ridiculously out of context.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

I read that the other day. It completely disgusts me. Most people don't even see 1 million over the course of their whole lives and he says that making almost 7x that this year? If he really didn't want to bring "hardship" on his family I'm certain some other team would be willing to give him more than a vet minimum. I can't believe he would be so absent minded as to say something like that. Just another reason to dislike him I guess.

You cannot judge this statement without asking him to define 'his family'. ::)

nah.... swing and miss. He deserves whatever hit he gets for this comment. It is even worse that he said 'harder' on his family. Harder implies that his other contracts were hard. Silly comment. He needs to hush and play out the contract he signed.

Yes I can.  He can't be supporting everyone from his extended family members to friends.

It doesn't help them in the long run

TP.

This is a bad thread and the people posting in it should feel bad.

Poor Josh Smith. I wonder how difficult it will be financially for him , once he retires from playing ball.

It all depends on how he handles his finances.

This is truly a non-story, because Smith wasn't talking about the money. He even said, that the Clippers deal wasn't about the money, because he got those millions from Detroit.

What WILL  be hard on his family is that it is one year deal, so his family (wife and three kids) won't be moving with him. In the original full quote he goes on to talk about how he will go for a long term deal next summer.

Quote
"So it is going to be a little harder on me this year. But I'm going to push through it, you know. ... I made a decision for me and my family."

This is not a horrible thing to say especially when you don't know what the question was that he was responding too.  The "I'm going to push through it" part is probably the worst of it.  I am by no means a Josh Smith fan.  I think he is very overrated as a player.  But he is a kid who probably grew up harder than me, played sports in High School and never went to college.  Being a polished, articulate public figure is not easy for anyone.  I say give him a break on this one.  I hope for Paul Pierce's sake that he has a good season.
