Gonna take my first driving trip here from PA with family.  Plan to stop at walhburgers then go into Boston.  Anyone have any advice on affordable hotels away from the city, places to see,  where not to go, .  how to avoid heavy traffic, etc.  much appreciated, lookin forward to seeing the city.  Feel free to pm as well-thanks

Real quick, avoid driving between 6AM-10AM in the morning and 3-6PM at night, no matter what highway you use.

True on weekdays, but my favorite time to go to Boston is early on Saturday or Sunday mornings in the summer.  No traffic and can always find a spot on Charles Street.

Ideas (some have already been mentioned)...

Museum of Science (if you have kids)
Duck Boat tour
Faneuil Hall
Freedom Trail (if you like history)
Red Sox game
Fenway Park tour
Before a game on Christmas against the Pacers, Bird told Chuck Person that he had a present for him. During the game, Bird shot a 3-pointer in front of Person. Immediately after releasing the ball, Bird said to Person, "Merry F!#*ing Christmas!" and then the shot went in.

I'm an LA guy, and I went to Boston last summer. It was a wonderful city!

I think buses and subways are you best friend when traveling around the different parts of the city. And then you just walk around the city on foot.

Of course, there are the experts who actually live in Boston so they know a lot more than I do.

What are you into?

I would recommend:

Freedom Trail
Public Gardens and Beacon Hill
The North End for the food and ambiance
Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge
The Museum of Fine Arts
The USS Constitution
Boston Public Library
Museum of Contemporary Art

If you are going to make a stop at Wahlburger then best to park your car in Braintree or Quincy, then take the train into Boston. Save money on parking and headache driving around

Ana's Taquería

TP.  This.  OP, not sure where you are in PA but as a Boston kid that is currently living in Philly there's not a day that goes by without me missing Anna's burritos.  I haven't found anything as good around here. Fortunately, I'm finishing up grad school and moving back home soon  ;D

In addition to what has already been said, there's a new franchise called Shake Shack that's in Harvard Square and has another store on the outskirts of the city. I would definitely recommend it.
