Did the Cs acquire Perry Jones to trade him to DEN for Gallo?

I wonder. He provides a salary fit, and allows them to keep some guys they may not want to put into the deal. Something like:

Turner, Jones, Olynyk (or Sully, tho I doubt they want him) and Babb for Dino.

They could then sign Holmes and Mickey.

I like pj but I admittedly like gallos game better. Gallo is 3 years older though, but has more "motor".  Tough one to choose on a 1 year rental

Only if the team also ends up under the cap when the trade completes. I doubt that would be the case with the Celtics, who have even less cap space now than they did at the start of the week.

But there's certainly a number of trade scenarios that could see the C's match Gallo's salary without using Jones to do so. He could be lumped into the trade under those circumstances.

This is correct.  The restriction on trading a player only applies to players acquired with an exception (TPE, disabled player, etc) and not one who was acquired via cap room.  PJ3 can be traded immediately and his salary combined with other players'.

Of course, this makes little sense to me, as Denver could have just acquired PJ3 on their own with their own cap room, and a Gallo deal only required the Celtics to send out ET's salary or more, because they had the cap room.

I'd be VERY OK if nothing brews and the C's just go into the season with the current players competing for playing time and hopefully generating an interesting, fun to watch, competetive rotation. 

That said, it really does feel like something is brewing.   Hope the feeling doesn't culminate in a trade for Gallinari as that would be pretty anti-climactic.  Anyway, I think it's going to be a very interesting year with a lot of moves, fun basketball, and many sub-plots.
