Regardless of what happens in the Summer league, he'll have a similar first year as Young did. After that, Steve Kerr kind of a player providing he plays on a team that will highlight that kind of play. If not, he'll be coaching at the college level within five years.

People point to his 30% from 3's last year but he fired them from NBA range most of the season. This may sound like hyperbole , but there hasn't been a Celtic on the roster with his range since Larry Legend ( Although Antoine Walker would disagree  ;D ) This kid has a swagger and a much better all around game than people give him credit for. He EXPECTS to be All Rookie and he fell into our laps at 28. I thought he's be a steal at 16!!! Call me the driver of the Hunter Bandwagon.
ALL ABOARD!!!

This is one of the more recent ie ten years draft picks I'm pretty psyched about.  If he can handle the defense etc his range is KEY

I think I'd normally agree on the Young route, except this kid looks like he can play a bit on the defensive side of things right away. Especially with his length.

The one trait that the top three picks have in common is wingspan. This will help them all on the defensive side of things.

He was drafted 28th, that position comes with zero expectations. Anything he can do in the NBA is a bonus.

He should do well in Maine but I do like his Dan Majerle range.

I wonder what caused his draft stock to drop as severely as it did...

I expect nothing from him at this point. I will refrain from placing expectations on him until I see how he performs in the Summer League. Then, I'll get enough of an idea of him to see what he has against decent competition.

His handles, range, and familiarity shooting off the dribble with defenders closing in bode well for his future because, at the NBA level, good-elite shooters better have the ability to shoot well with a defender closing in or putting the ball on the deck and making the right play (whether that be dishing it to the open man, finishing at the rim, or drawing a foul).

Mike Miller 2.0

At 28th spot? I'll take it. Mike Miller was a great role player.

Nutt n  much basket ball wise ......he be good step n fetch it for CBS

It gives CBS another player project ........you know ?

CBS collects projects, he likes developing players , he enjoys making something out of nothing ....

Hunter is a worthy project for CBS ...as is James Young.

If he can go for coffee and donuts ......carry luggage for Smart and IT .

Right now, I think he will make the squad at the NBA level but I will be more certain after summer league tomorrow.  Can I reserve judgement until then?

This is an important issue. I think with guys like him it often boils down to whether they can create enough space to shoot - whether it's off screens or the dribble.

Per Kevin Pelton, ESPN's Advanced stats guru:

Quote
WARP Projection: 2.6 (seventh among players in the top 100)
Comparables: Chris Johnson (94.4), Marcus Thornton (92.1), Damian Lillard (90.7), James Anderson (90.7)
Strengths: Shooting, Steal%, Block%, TO%, PF%
Weaknesses: None

The concern about Hunter will surely center on an alleged shooting specialist making just 30.5 percent of his 3-pointers during his final college season. However, there's plenty of reason to believe that mark isn't indicative of Hunter's actual shooting ability.

If you're looking to predict how well a player will shoot 3s in the NBA, it turns out college 3-point percentage isn't the best predictor. In fact, it barely even helps the prediction at all, which instead relies on free throw percentage and the percentage of a player's attempts that come from 3-point range. Hunter scores high on both of those measures; he has made 88 percent of his free throws the past two seasons and took more than half his shots from beyond the arc. Based on those facts, we'd guess he'll develop into a 39 percent career 3-point shooter in the NBA -- second to Florida's Michael Frazier II among players in Chad Ford's top 100.

Even with the poor shooting, Hunter rated as one of the most valuable players in college basketball because of his well-rounded contributions. There is reason to be skeptical of his high steal and block rates, since Hunter played primarily in a zone defense against much smaller wings. Still, his combination of size and shooting ability is rare and valuable.

Really excited for this kid. On draft night I thought there was no way he fell to 28 and gave Danny a round of applause for making the right pick.

To me the exciting part about RJ is that even though he is labeled as a specialist he is very skilled all around on offense. You can spot him up in the corner, you can ask him to create for himself in ISO situations, you can run him off screens, and he is skilled enough in his passing and ball handling to become a true NBA star.

Reminds me of Jeremy Lamb or a player that absolutely has the potential to become a star SG, but some people have questions about his consistency and whether his game will translate overall. Also am not sure how he will translate defensively. Really can't wait for Summer League tomorrow!
