Michael Scotto @MikeAScotto
Sources: Orlando Magic RFA Tobias Harris is open to signing a short-term deal that will allow him to hit the open market again next summer.

doesn't that kind of force Orlando's hand to do a sign and trade since he will likely leave next year anyway?

Couldn't he sign a 1 yr deal and then Orlando match it? If so, how does that force them?
because he can just play out the year and leave and then they get nothing for him, same thing Monroe did this year...

My god get this guy already.  I have no interest in watching this current team as is!  If Harris is willing to sign a smaller deal it may be him tipping his hand to Boston?

Orlando board talking about getting assets for him before he leaves next year if he takes the QO or 1 year deal

It also sounds like he wont take the QO.

Maybe DA holding out pushed Harris into taking some thing less, two year, player or team option, and would do a S&T, that way DA wouldn't have to give up a ton if it's in the 10mill mark. Orlando could get something out of it instead of letting him walk for nothing.

Why we went after Amir Johnson and not this guy I've no idea. Johnson doesn't fill a need and this guy does. He's young, a proven scorer in the clutch and stands to grow a lot more.

He was a perfect fit in a year when we had cap space.

If this is true, it's not looking good for Boston:
http://www.celticsblog.com/2015/7/2/8882315/update-bulpett-celtics-pull-out-of-tobias-harris-sweepstakes
that was last night when he was going after a near max, now they are saying he could take a 1 or 2 year deal, big difference

Did you actually read the link?

Quote
The Celts had a certain financial parameter in mind for Harris, and when it became clear that Orlando was willing to pay big to match any offer for the restricted free agent, they were out of the running.

If this is true, then Boston couldn't get him this year even if they wanted to.

Scenario 1) Boston makes offer, Orlando matches
Scenario 2) Harris takes Qualifying offer, he's off the market until next year

Would still love Harris as our 3. What free agent small forward do we realistically expect to get that would be better than Harris? Forget about drafting the guy, because it's fairly obvious that we're not going to be headed down the ranking route anytime soon.
