New contract to keep Asik alongside Anthony Davis on Pelicans' front line, I'm told, on course to be verbally agreed by night's end

Omer Asik is finalizing a five-year, $60M deal to return to the New Orleans Pelicans, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.

I hated Asik with them last season, don't like this for them at all.

A lot of money to pay for a guy who doesn't seem to fit that well with your superstar.

And to think people were knocking the Amir Johnson deal.

This one is atrocious.

I used to be interested in Asik but after watching him play more this year in NO, I am not impressed at all.

That contract will look phenomenal in a few years.  Whether they keep him or cash in on him once he becomes a low cost specialty guy, good signing.

Draft: 8 first rounders in next 5 years.

Cap space: $24 mil.

My thinking exactly. They put him on the bench in crunch time because his offense was so bad.

This is baffling. Asik didn't have a great season (7.3pts, 9.8rebs, 0.7blks), and he didn't fit with Davis' play last year. Pelicans just splurged on a frontcourt that doesn't play well together. Maybe they think Gentry can fix this?

This is laughably bad.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

Hearing that the final year of Omer Asik's new contract in New Orleans is not guaranteed. Guaranteed cash in the deal roughly $45 million

And just think, they could have had Noel starting along side Davis and have used the 2014 1st rounder on the PG of their future Elfrid Payton.

NO really making some questionable moves to build around Davis. This is a terrible deal, and a player I thought they should just let walk.

Asik was already gone last year, and he is now effectively gone for the foreseeable future.

Next target please!

With Asik and Davis, the Pels were a poor defensive team.  This seems like a really stupid decision but maybe a new coach will help.

It's so frustrating that we have a pretty well-run team and can't get anyone who would be a top 3 player on a good team, yet a team that does literally everything wrong will likely still end up a contender just because they were given the top pick to reward their owner for buying them got lucky in the lottery.
