BOSTON ? Detroit Pistons free agent Greg Monroe did not include the Boston Celtics on the list of teams he?ll visit with on Wednesday, the first day of free agency.

But a league source tells CSNNE.com that the Celtics are by no means eliminated from contention for the big man.

A USA Today report indicated that the 6-foot-11 big man will visit with the Los Angeles Lakers, Milwaukee Bucks, New York Knicks and Portland Trail Blazers within the first 24 hours of free agency.

The report also indicated that there was the possibility that Monroe would meet with other teams.

That is indeed expected to be the case, with the Celtics being one of those teams.

Promising. Lets hope Blakley didn't report it, though. If that's the case, consider the report utterly useless.

One thing to keep in mind. Many of these first round of meetings you guys are hearing about (not necessarily this one) are happening because team officials are flying to Los Angeles and meeting with players there, in part because of the teams pursuing Aldridge who's taking meeting in LA.

Does this not suggest LA is the front-runner? Or is it merely a destination near most of the teams that are interested? Would make most sense for him to end up in SA for a 2-year contract, then bank it in after a try at a chip.

Not really, the Agents offices are in LA.

This report is from Blakely. Lets take it with a grain of salt.

That's good, thanks.

Thanks to tankcity, too. Not optimistic, but trying to keep hope alive here.

Yeah, they're in the running, they just don't merit a visit on the first day, let alone the opening of free agency tonight.  Forget this one folks.  The fish isn't on the line.

Really? So because he's not visiting the Celtics on the first day, it means you should give up?

So Monroe will go to Los Angeles, Bucks, New York and Portland in 24 hours? Thats a lot for a presidential candidate days before an election. Just saying it smells of BS to me. I know Monroe is eager to get out of Detroit but he has a week before he can sign a contract, why do it all day 1? What's the source on the original list of 1st day teams?
