im.....actually a yankees fan myself lol. could be where this comes from (raised in a Celtics, Yankees, NY Giants household, father loved Russell and Mantle)

and being the arm chair gm is half the fun of these forums.  but at least here there's some back and forth.  it seems like we'll always have an opinion, and then a good amount of people both for and against it.  does not seem to be the case, at least as far as philly goes on numerous sites.  they all seem to be STAUNCHLY in the camp of Hinkie is a genius, and we've outsmarted the league, even though they (imo anyway) are doing my long term harm than good to their franchise (culture of losing, young guys never playing any important games, never having anything to win for, a figurehead coach, no chemistry/veteran leadership, etc)

What would be funny that since they took a high ranked big each of the last three years, that each one leaves in consecutive years because they can't stand playing for them. :)

Seriously., I've seen some video's of Philly fan/Bloggers, and they were super happy with taking an other big. I mean Winslow and Emuiday would have been smart picks, and NY would have gotten their franchise big man.

And then the conspiracy  nuts would have gone crazy!!! :D
Towns, Okafor and Russell were the top tier picks of the draft.  Taking a lesser player for fit reasons would not have been a smart decision.  It could be argued that the Sixers got the best player in each of the last three drafts.

orrrrr it could be argued that they took 2 injury risks and a guy with a high floor but a low ceiling. Okafor is nice, and I would have loved him in green, but he seems like a better version of Sully.  big body, can bang around in the low post (obviously okafor is better there), some range, not much (Sully better here), not much to speak of defensively, and at best a solid starting 4 on a playoff team.  is that what you want in the #2 pick?  i get the dichotomy with taking Okafor to balance out the Embiid pick but how many playoff teams have bigs that are only an asset on the offensive side of the ball?

I think I saw the same thread on a Yankees forum about Sox fans once. ;)

Also, there are (sadly) a large number of Celts fans who seem to envy the Sixers right now, which seems absolutely crazy to me. To each their own, though.

Yeah, I think there are probably more Celts fans that envy the Sixers at the moment than the other way round.

Sure, the Celtics have more recent success.  We can take a lot of pride in our franchise.  But the lifeblood of a rebuilding franchise is young talent, and the Sixers have it.  Yeah, the team is a complete mess and they're still years away, but you can be a Sixers fan and imagine your team being really good with some of the core players they already have there and not be totally delusional.  Celts fans can't say the same.

The injury risk is why Noel fell to #6 and Embiid fell to #3.  They were still arguably the best players in their drafts.  Noel has already comeback from his injury and had an excellent rookie season from a defensive standpoint.  We'll see what happens with Embiid but he has star talent.  Okafor was taken with the #3 pick.  He has an elite post game and is much better than Sully.  I'd put his floor as Big Al.  Philly isn't a playoff team so there is no reason for them not to take the best player available.  In the short term, they can develop all three bigs.  Once they determine which two bigs to keep, they should be able to trade the 3rd big for a nice return.  They also have Saric developing in Europe.  To top it off, they should have 4 #1 picks in next year's draft.

but they can't develop all 3. by the time they figure out what they have in one of them, itll be time to decide whether or not to pay him a big extension or let him move on.  ESPECIALLY considering the fact that their big men seem to miss, at minimum so far, one season on their rookie deal per player.

i get the intrigue, and i get the idea that this is still a big man league (it is but not like it was, but that's a different argument for a different day) but all the talent in the world means very little if you don't do the other little things right, and that's where the culture of losing, leadership, front office vision, etc i talk about comes into play.

don't forget, the Atlanta Hawks had a team full of lottery/top 5 talent too and ya they were a playoff team, but they were 1 and done evvvvvvvery year.  it takes more than just high draft picks to win in this league.  much more.  the nba is not 2k15.

If one of them (probably Noel) can play PF, they've got plenty of minutes to go around.  They ought to limit Embiid's minutes (20-25 mpg) and games during the season (60-65 games).  I wouldn't play Okafor much more than that either.  I expect they'll develop quite well with all three bigs going against each other in practice.

Talent means a lot in the NBA especially young talent.  I don't buy the culture of losing argument.  Noel has played one losing season and the other two haven't played yet.  Futhermore. you can lose but still have a good culture especially with young players.  The Sixers were an above average defense with Noel and a bunch of d-leaguers.  They lost because of very limited offensive talent.  Their front office certainly has a vision and they are sticking to it.  As far as leadership goes, the lack of veterans gives their young players the opportunity to step up and lead.

I'm very envious of their young big man trio. I'm even more jealous that those big men compliment each other pretty well in terms of offensive/defensive specialist. I wish we could play a slow it down grind it out down low style, like Memphis.

Philly fans are incredible, during regular season I spend lots of time at their SBNation blog.

Trade day: Sixers blog phase 1 (denial)

Phase 2 (bargaining)

Phase 3 (anger; when you realize it was the wrong Isaiah)

Also this link is great stuff

You know how you end a culture of losing? Winning games.

You know how you win games? Talent.

You know where the most talent is available in the draft? At the top.

This is what I suspect will happen with at least one or possibly 2 of Noel, Embiid and Okafor.

They'll still stink when Noel is coming off his rookie deal.  Does he take financial security and more losing or play for the QO and move to a team that's winning?

certainly has been a cinch for the knicks, nets, clippers, etc to turn around quickly.......

or...what was it you said?  ::)

talent does not success breed. clips are a great example. LOADED with talent. all of whom have no clue how to win big games.

They just beat San Antonio, kind of a big deal the best few years, in game 7. That's the silliest example you could have given.

Please then, tell me what breeds winning culture. And do so in a manner that doesn't rely on vague buzzwords or catchphrases.

"You just have to want it."
"Grit"
"Determination"
"Hustle"
"A blue collar attitude"
"Bringing your lunch pail to work"

What tangible steps breed a winning culture?

And how does a team without them win 50 games annually?
