Demarre Carroll and Robin Lopez - Let's Get Realistic

If I am Danny, I immediately get realistic come July 1.  I try to sign DeMarre Carroll and Robin Lopez while everybody else is going after the big names.  The C's will be ahead of the game when those big pieces start to fall and losing teams redirect their attention to the second tier.

If Carroll and R. Lopez are the best options, I'd prefer for the Celtics to explore trades to even out the positional depth and open up playing time for the younger guys.

Going after guys with just a year left on their deals e.g. David Lee, Roy Hibbert, Dano Gallinari would be a good way to temporarily plug some holes without compromising flexibility.  Help the other guys on the team function better in their ideal roles.

Or they could just sell off some of the guys who are superfluous -- e.g. Bradley, Turner -- for younger pieces and aim to get a top 10 pick.

Otherwise, swing for the fences.  Hope for at least one homerun. 


Those two are good players that will not move the needle for the Celtics.

Honestly I think this is the most realistic option. That being said I'm not willing to let my dreams of signing a big free agent die until the sign somewhere else.

If Ainge loses out on Monroe, I think this is the next-best Ainge can do in free agency. So probably best off finding a different way to use that cap space because spending $30 million a year on those two is a frightening concept.

I like those players and would gladly take them, they are not max type so the $ has to be reasonable.

I like it.  Both are solid fits.

Do you prefer Carroll over Harris ?

Also, instead of what you propose, how about Pierce and Paul Millsap ? Realistic ?

I would rather go after Koufos than Lopez.  He's cheaper and more upside.  I think that if LA signs elsewhere the Blazers will pay more for Lopez to keep him.

Koufos made it clear that he wants to be a starter. No nonsense Lakers or Knicks with him. And no Texas tax heaven either since he would be deep in the bench in those teams.

Pass on Carroll. He's 28 and can hit open threes when he's the 5th option on the Hawks. I'd prioritize Crowder(who still has some upside) over Carroll. Definitely go after Harris.

Lopez is good at the right price.
