76ers Ordered to Pay Pelicans $3 million for Not Disclosing Holiday's Injuries

The 76ers were ordered to pay the New Orleans Pelicans $3 million by the NBA last season for not fully disclosing Jrue Holiday's injury history before he was traded two years ago, according to two sources.

------------

According to the other two sources, the Sixers are now trying to receive a payment from the Los Angeles Lakers for allegedly misinforming them about Andrew Bynum. Bynum came to the Sixers from Los Angeles in a four-team deal in August 2012. But the 7-foot center never played for the team due to chronically injured knees.

$3 million fine sounds cheap to move a player with serious injuries.

I don't think that will stop teams from continuing to do this.

Those were my thoughts, too.  If a player truly was damaged goods, and then sustained a related injury, $3 million doesn't come close to compensating them fairly.

They should have been forced to give up their 2016 1st round draft pick to them.

Yeah, the penalties should be more like the first rounder that the Thunder had to give us after not telling us about Green's heart issue
I'm bitter.

Exactly, and even a first rounder is not enough for most of the cases.
It should be debate and penalize higher than the value given to the opposite team.
No way Danny would have accepted trading Perk for a heart damaged Green + 1 pick.

They probably need to make a set of rules about this for the next CBA, and either have an NBA official or a group officials that figure out punishments for this type of thing (among other duties, since this kind of thing doesn't occur THAT often)
I'm bitter.

Draft picks is what the compensation should be, like we got with Green.

They do discuss it in the CBA, I've heard it mentioned the max penalty was 1 million dollars but if they're paying 3 somebody is wrong.

It's also been denied by a team source FWIW(probably not much for or against the veracity).

The difference in penalties indicates to me that the league didn't feel the Sixers issue was as serious as the Thunder issue.  If that is true, the Sixers penalty shouldn't be as severe.

Gives new meaning to the phrase "there's something Hinkie about this trade offer."

Another black mark for the Sixers FO. Good luck recouping value for Embiid (or Noel, for that matter).

$3 million is a slap on the wrist.

Yes, I'm sure Hinkie would have a ton of trouble moving a cost controlled 21 year old rim protector who just had one of the best defensive seasons ever for a rookie.

He's also got an injury history.

A non-recurring one he got from running into the basket two years ago, which he's fully recovered from. If he's available GM's are lining up around the block. Just browse the forums.

No GM is going to turn down a move that they think will save their job just because they don't like Sam Hinkie.
