Is this Brad saying he doesn't expect the Cs to get a rim protector?

Maybe they don't like what they see at the combine with WCS ?
Or maybe they have bigger plan at this position ?
Who knows

this team could benefit greatly from a pure shooter. that and lessen everything AB does offensively.

Sounds like he thinks that's a possibility.

Quote  from CBS from earlier this season

Quote
"I think, certainly, in an ideal situation, what you're looking for are certain qualities as a team. A rim protector, whether it's a 7-footer or not, is extremely important in this league. A guy that really protects the rim from the dotted line in."

Imo Celts need to draft at least one of wcs, mickey, holmes. Take upshaw if he is available in the 2nd round.

Which is the right way to think.  There's only one in the draft who would likely be able to contribute much next year, and 4-5 in free agency.  The are more than 5-6 teams who would like such a player, so getting one is anything but guaranteed.

Unlike a lot of us on this board (myself included), Stevens is a realist.

+1 draft talent, fill needs with FA and trades.

Robin Lopez, Koufus, Asik, Ajinca, Brandan Wright are all unrestricted and an upgrade in regards to rim protection (whatever that means). With the main targets being Gasol and DeAndre, we might be able to snatch a very solid defensive center as Robin Lopez.
"We do so many defensive drills in practice, I come home and I'm putting the press on my woman, denying her the ball.
Y'all are laughing, but it's sad. I go home and deny the wing."

Mickey, holmes, upshaw

Christmas is not a natural but has the physical tools to block shots many cant

I have seen many so called expert shot blockers from college. Ones that benefit from playing in a zone d system. One that just stands underneath the basket . one that is 6'8 bouncy athlete ,that is a 210 pounds pf that has little chance to stay on a nba floor for more than a few mins.

Mickey for example is very good at covering his man (at 240 pounds ) and has the ability to provide weakside help. Block from standastill. These are qualities of a true nba shot blocker

None of those three are ready to contribute much in their rookie year on a competitive team.  You really overestimate the ability of college players to transition to the NBA.  If they were ready, they'd all be top 15 picks.

Disagree. Some guys are ready but dont have the skill/tools to make an impact.  Its not about being ready 100 percent or having the potential.  More importantly can you stay on the floor , not be outmuscled, out smarted on the court. What skill can you provide to help your team?

A smart defender like mickey has a chance to make an immediate impact.   His slightly undersized height is the main reason he is not a considered a high pick.  If he was 6'10, he would be a surefire top 15 pick.

Mickey is a versatile defender that can protect the rim. At 240 is heavy enough not to be pushed around. Is physical, good at denying entry passes (signs of a good, willing defender). Jump shot needs to improve(mainly body needs to be in balance consistently before shooting). But the mechanics look good. High , quick release

He's got a good point, though.

How many legitimate seven foot tall, long, athletic, true rim protectors are there in the league right now?

Jordan
Howard
Drummond
Gobert
Noel
Whiteside
Chandler

Anyone else?

DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

Drummond nor Howard are not true 7 footers

I would be disappointed if the C's choose to go into next season being dominated inside as they we're this year. Not with all the draft choices they have stocked away. That would be like saying all these draft choices are almost worthless as far as trade chips.
At least try for a free agent... Robin Lopez, Koufus, Asik, Ajinca, Byombo. Are all better than Zeller on defense, and rim protection.
