Sources suggested to Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders last month that point guard Cameron Payne has a promise from a team, and that indeed appears to be the case, Kyler writes in the same piece. There?s a decent chance it?s from a team picking higher than the Thunder, whom Chad Ford of ESPN.com linked to him at No. 14, Kyler adds
.

So who is it?

I have a crazy theory it's Miami. Then they might screw him and trade down

Pacers need a PG even more than OKC.

My money is on the Pacers.

Heat have Dragic lined up

I still read that Payne will workout for the Celtics soon.  Maybe he will not take any chances?

Whoever it is that's good news for us.  It pushes someone else back to sixteen.

Would Denver consider him at #7?

As a replacement for Ty Lawson who they clearly want to move on from.

Where'd you read that? Muprhy had the tweet below and I heard that he's shut down working out for teams because of the promise.

Tomorrow's Celtics workout will feature point guards, though not mid-lottery possibility Cameron Payne.

ok ok. I guess he won't be coming in after all.  My guess again is that the Pacers have made a promise

Anyone know why Dekker pulled out of the workout scheduled for today? How often to players get promises?

"Sam Dekker, the Wisconsin shooter who may or may not be available at pick No. 16, pulled out of today's workout, though the Celtics expect to bring him in at a later date."
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

#Celtics draft workout invitee Justin Anderson said he expected to see Wisconsin's Sam Dekker today, but thinks he pulled out of workout.

Could be true Dekker has little to gain and a lot to lose by going up against those 2 it you believe the mocks. Anderson thinks he's better than Dekker and would probably outshine him in a workout setting.

I agree Dekker would have been risking alot working out with that group for the Cs. Most mocks seem to view Boston as Dekkers floor and have him going in the 10-16 range. Working out with a group that likely features 3 high end NBA defensive prospects (I also think Dawson will be a bench defensive specialist in the league) could do nothing but hurt his stock. Sure he could have had a great workout and dominated them but that would only have cemented his floor and possibly inclined the Cs to trade up a few spots. Not really worth the risk.

As for the Promise to Payne, I have to believe its from the Pacers unless the Kings are out of there minds. No other lottery teams are really in need of a PG. I guess the Nuggets would be the third option if they plan to move lawson.

I'll do ya one more on Payne. It would be nearly unprecedented but how about Sac at 6 assuming they (Karl) just liked him that much?

With Dekker he could still end up being a better player than players who smoke him in workouts. Hit some big shots in the tournament and allegedly was the best player at the Lebron James camp. He'd be an interesting pick if that'd be the direction we'd decide on. Glad to hear he's considering rescheduling the visit with us.

Payne getting a promise is just silly.  Teams should not make promises and players should not bank on them.  Too many things can change draft day, not the least of which is trades.  As for who might have given such a promise, I don't think it is necessarily a team that appears to need a PG.  Some one could have a trade lined up, someone may simply view Payne as the BPA.

As for Dekker, I don't think the Celtics should need to work him out to form an opinion of his ability.  I am sure there were scouts at some Badger games and everyone watched him in the tourney.  Workouts for such a known quantity as Dekker are not as important as they are for some other players.  For example players from Europe, players like the big Indian guy who never played in college, or for a player from a small school who put up big numbers against lesser competition.  These are the type of guys you need to see live against other top talent.

I am not that interested in Dekker or Payne and I hope the Celtics aren't either.

DraftExpress came out with a new mock yesterday.  They had Payne at fourteen.  Apparently, they don't believe in the promise he was given in the top thirteen.
