Doc, he won't give up GM duties is my guess.

Then maybe a year off announcing--unless he thinks he's got to go somewhere immediately to coach his kid again?

Unless you think Byron Scott isn't a surprise, that's your answer.  They're just waiting for Thibs to get canned to go after him, as they can't really afford the draft pick Chicago is certainly asking for currently.

He was never hired to coach a SERIOUS lakers team.

He was hired as as an interim "tanking" era coach .   Someone to keep the coaches seat warm while the Lakers rebuild.

That's the difference between the a Lakers and Celtics .

Lakers tanked and then have to find a coach .....but how long will their fans allow them to sit on the bottom of the pile .....not long or the TV people will start hollering louder as the rating fall.

Celtics got the keeper coach first and then rebuild .....reverse process of LA

Those old coaches are too lazy to rebuild a team .......Ducky Rivers for one.

Lakers knew they could not attract talent with their present coach ...even being they  are THE Lakers

Doc Rivers -- done a terrible job as GM. Has effected his team's performance on the court. He was hired by previous ownership. New owner will want his own man + to correct clear problems in current leadership.

Agree......he needs to be fired as GM .....rivers is not smart enough to be a Great GM

Washington , Raptors , and Lakers coaches are probably in trouble .

I'll say Dave Joerger. Wasn't he on thin ice with their front office last season?

I'm gonna go with Joerger too.

Thinking way outside the square, Stan fires himself as coach and brings in Jeff and stays as President.

I think this would've been much more plausible 2-3 years ago, but JVG has been way happier behind the booth as of late -- I think what happened to Mark Jackson made him remember how much easier broadcasting is.

I think Thibs could get a lot more out of the Grizzlies than he can.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I have to agree with that. An old style team with an old style coach. Perfect match. They could win next year together.

I think it's going to be Whittman. Try to spruce up the organization a little bit a year before they go all in on KD. Nothing says flashy like, uh, Randy Whittman?

The Lakers had interest in Thibs LAST year. Now I'm told they are very happy with Byron Scott. Kupchak even went on record w/ this last week

Looks like Byron may be safe.

Wittman getting fired makes sense, but it's not much of a surprise, most people seemed to think he was on thin ice all year.  Maybe coming close-ish to the ECF makes it surprising, but it's seemed inevitable for a while now.

Well, who will really be surprising ?
- Pop
- Stevens
- Budenholzer
- Kerr
- Rivers
- Carlisle
The rest won't be surprising at all to me.

Terry Stotts would be a surprise but it wouldn't be a total shock.

It turns out Sheridan thought it was going to be Jeff Hornacek, but didn't happen.
