Heck why not take Dakari Johnson at 33.
Because he was not much of a shot blocker?
Lol , TP.
Also, never draft for need, even though Upshaw might very well be the bpa at 16, anyway. Still, I wouldn't use all of our picks on shot blockers. Just take the best players, and we'll go from there. Oh, and Jordan Mackey , ahaha .
and you are not with the players I have listed. You are not reaching. Upshaw is a only risk
We also can't keep adding players congesting the lineup. When will they get min to develop?
The team desperately is missing some above the rim presence/explosive players.
We do need 3 pt shooters too but that is 2nd on the list
I do think that Upshaw could solve many of our interior deficiencies by himself, but just because we have a bunch of guards right now doesn't mean that there aren't better players to be had in this draft, not to mention that at least some of our guys just won't work out, long-term, for whatever reason, but here's why you never draft for need -
Once upon a time
, the Pistons already had an imposing 3 guard rotation of Zeke, John Long, and Vinnie Johnson, yet they still drafted Joe Dumars in 1985, and it looked like there wouldn't be enough playing time to go around. However, because Joe proved to be such an outstanding player, John Long became replaceable, and he was traded, so all in all, I think that that worked out pretty well for Detroit
, don't you think, lol
?
My point being that, even if the talent doesn't immediately fit our roster, the new guys could prove to be better than those players we already have, or we could flip them to a team who really wanted player(s) x on draft night for something/someone better, whether immediately, or down the road.
Look at what happened when Chicago took Jimmy Butler. Coming off Rose's mvp season in 2011-12, they already had Kyle Korver, Luol Deng, and would later sign both Ronnie Brewer and Richard Hamilton, and yet, 4 years later, Rip has retired, Korver and Deng were traded (and the latter has seemingly broken down), Brewer signed with the Knicks after 11-12, and Jimmy Buckets is an all star looking to get dat dough, lol
. You never know what's going to happen down the road with injuries, etc., so just take the best player.
