If the Cs miss out on bigger fish, why not try to depreciate the Nets assets while improving the Cs roster? Regardless of whether or not either of those guys fit the Cs needs, they'd immediately be the two of the best players on the team and more easily packaged for other trades.  If they're big money, short, team friendly deals, even better.

If you only look at "Will this player win us a championship" then you never deal for Theo Ratliff.

This is a reasonable point about depricating the roster of the Nets. If they lose these two guys they are still pretty close to salary cap with Johnson and Williams . I think Johnson alone makes like 25 million next year. They could recover the year after that, but it would almost guarantee us a lottery pick.

Lopez is a player that the Knicks are probably seriously looking at to replace Stoudemire.  Hopefully, Danny learned from the LaFrentz deal that serious injuries never go away.   (I'm not commenting on the deal itself, just the persistent injuries that dogged Raef.)
