Drawing an offensive foul is a lot more beneficial then merely getting a steal.

I agree it's beneficial and overlooked, but not sure I'd go so far to say a lot more beneficial than a steal.  Live ball turnovers lead to very high-percentage scoring chances.  An offensive foul is nice, but most backcourt players don't regularly run into foul trouble, and so the extra foul generally won't alter a game tremendously.  They're both good things, however.

Hey! Look! Marcus Smart is good at defense!

Like really really good.

Like a "Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.n velociraptor on defense" (Zach Lowe)
My biases, in order of fervor:
Pro:
Smart, Brown, Hayward, Tatum, Kemba, Grant Williams, Sleepy Williams, Edwards!

Anti:
Kanter, Semi, Theis, Poierier

Some of those were great defensive plays, and some of them were great acting plays lol. He's so good at selling the arm flail. There were also a number of just boneheaded push-offs by the other guy, I think he just plays so physically that guys get frustrated and do stupid things.

He can predict when the opponent is going to elbow him and sell it at the right time.
How many times he takes one for the team. Some were serious bang on him.
Brilliant for a rookie.

Way more valuable than a block. Not sure about steal.

Blocks are the most overrated. What percentage of blocks are rebounded by the defensive team? 100% of steals and offensive fouls directly lead to a possession for the defense. This analysis says only 57%: http://www.82games.com/comm16.htm

Apparently, 1 in 6 blocks go out of bounds.

I don't get why offensive fouls drawn are not tracked as a major stat, yet blocks are.

Very impressive feat for a rookie to be top ten in any positive stat. To be 2nd is outstanding. Now if team could only secure their in the paint defensive anchor.

marcus drew charges on more than just guards, putting players in foul trouble can radically  influence a game-from substitutions to minutes played and can cause players to play more conservatively-great year for marcus and the refs did let him play aggresively and next year should be even better-

I understanding what you're trying to say but don't agree 100%.  While blocks in and of themselves are not converted directly into points like a steal, the threat of a block is a major factor for a defense and is a much more important element that the threat of taking a block.

That is quite interesting actually with them finishing 1 and 2; we have been hearing Smart to Lowry comparisons all year, although I think Marcus's ceiling is way higher than Lowrys.

Way higher in what sense?  Frankly, I think Lowry is about Smarts ceiling.
