16: Its high, but I go with Wood here because he doesn't make it to 28 and I think he becomes one of those special players.
28: Upshaw, yeah I take the chance.
33: Dakari Johnson.  A true center
45: Hanlan: nice combo guard for depth

This all said, no way we add four rooks to the roster.  Has to be a trade coming.  BTW, combine stats on Wood:

H/WO Shoes 6' 9.25"
H/W Shoes 6' 10.5"
Weight 216
Wingspan 7' 3.25"
Standing Reach 9' 3.5"
Body Fat 14.7
The body fat is an issue that shouldn't be taken lightly... The high number most likely signals that Wood doesn't have a lot muscle on his body (which is bad considered that he only weights around 215 lbs). He reminds me too much of JaJuan Johnson, which is why I wouldn't take him at #16. It's too high of a risk.
Jack of all trades, master of none.

using DX as a basis for available players

#16 RHJ ( if MKG went #2 then RHJ shouldn't be a reach at #16)

#28 Dakari Johnson

#33 De Paula (draft and stash)

#45 Tyler Harvey

Johnson at 28 is an over reach.  Way too early.

16, Bobby Portis, Trey Lyles, Reach for Robert Upshaw, Reach for Jordan Mickey if Danny likes him enough.

28. Chris McCullough, Reach for Mam Jaiteh, Aleksander Vezenkov, Rakeem Christmas

33. Dakari Johnson, Rashad Vaughn, Terry Rozier

45.Michael Qualls, JP Takoto, Guillermo Hernangomez, Cedi Osman

Any pick marked as a reach would also fall into the pick below it assuming they are still available.

Ideally I would take:

16.)  Oubre   (Kansas)
28.)  Upshaw   (Washington)
33.)  McCullough   (Syracuse)
45.)  Diagne  (Senegal)

Celtics get a future stud in Oubre, who I think will be similar to Jimmy Butler in the NBA.  Hopefully the Celtics hit (no pun intended) on at least one of Upshaw/McCullough/Diagne as their rim protector of the future.
2019 historical draft.  Pick 12

Tim Duncan, Oscar Robertson, Elgin Baylor, Scottie Pippen, Willis Reed, Mitch Richmond, Sam Jones, Dan Majerle, Bob Cousy, Rasheed Wallace, Shawn Kemp, Marcus Camby

update for me

#16. Upshaw (you take the risk. High risk/high reward)
#25. Mickey (trade 28 and 45. I know , no trades but I predict he won't be available at 28)
#33. Aleksandar Vezenkov (reading he is a lights out shooter, draft and stash - Mirotic like situation)

undrafted (if available): Anthony Brown, Lebryan Nash, Richaun Holmes

As much as I want Ainge to take some risks on guys with upside, I'm simply not in favor of using a mid 1st round pick on a guy who might not stick around in the league for the length of his rookie contract.

I think there will be guys with good upside there at 16, no need to use the pick on Upshaw.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

So what is this guy going to do . Just take a rookie salary (2 years min) and become Swift next?

You are gambling with a guys basketball career and future .   If he was up for a big

contract like Larry Sanders was , now that is a different story

rarely do you come across shady prospects like Royce White who fail fail in year 1 or 2

Yet Royce White fell in the draft because he had major red flags.  Same here.  Same with Hassan Whiteside, who was also out of the league for a while, and who knows if he'll stick around.

Fab Melo had some red flags, and was just a very risky pick for a number of reasons, and he didn't make it through his rookie deal, either.

It's harder to find examples of guys who had the kind of trouble in school that Upshaw has had, with the kind of negative off-the-court hype Upshaw has had, who ended up becoming valuable contributors to the team that drafted them.

Fab Melo had academic issues.

Didnt read that RU had any academic related issues.

Whiteside is not a good example, bc look at him now.  He just needed to mature

Upshaw striked out twice. If he strikes out again, he will be striking out in the ability to provide a roof over his head etc.

I think CBS and the guys on the team can keep him on the right path.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
16 - Upshaw
28 - BPA
33 - BPA
44 - LeBryan Nash

Nash is projected to be undrafted, but I think he really is one of those players who can be a solid bench guy. He has the size, the athleticism and the scoring instincts. I really have no clue why he's not even projected to be drafted. Is it because he's a senior?
