Jefferson's ceiling was his current status.. 3rd best player on a championship team, liability on defense.

Eh, I think that's probably true but misremembering the situation at the time.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

would have been interesting because I think Boston still ends up with an excellent team because I think they get Pau Gasol and probably doesn't have to give up Jefferson.

Imagine this team in 07/08 and beyond

PG - Rondo/Cassell/House
SG - Allen/Allen
SF - Pierce/Posey
PF - Gasol/Brown/Davis
C - Jefferson/Perkins

Gasol was clearly not as good as Garnett, but Jefferson probably more than makes up the ground.  I actually think Boston would have won multiple titles with that team, though maybe Marc Gasol still develops on the Lakers like he did in Memphis.  Would have been an interesting scenario for sure.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip
