Hold your horses this one ain't over yet ;D

Being down this much to a great Cavs team is like being down 39 to anyone else. It was over with the tip off in game 1.

But you compete. And BOS, for most part this series - has competed.

You don't create a culture like Sixers and expect to be a FA draw.

Culture is a joke. You don't lure free agents in 20s with culture. You lure them with weather and endorsements. Money will be there no matter what. Philly and Boston have nothing for free agents.

Not all 20-something FAs are that shallow. There are some that care.

Those that don't? Well, judging by Wyc's comments a couple of weeks ago on Blog front page, we don't want those kind here.

We want those FAs that WANT to be here. If they WANT to be here, then they care about more than the superficial things.

Maybe the Celtics should be aiming at an older free agent who is closer to 30 than to 25 and can bring maturity and poise to the roster.

I'd be very open to that, too.

Marc Gasol, LaMarcus Aldridge - you reading this blog? :)

Tanking is no guarantee of long-term success. Where The Celtics are now is no guarantee of long-term success. What leads to long-term success is making wise decisions in the position you are in. In this one upcoming draft The Celtics will have a lesser pick than if they had tanked. They still have all the assets they had before, the gazillion draft picks, the upcoming cap space. They still have Brad Stevens. They have IT which they wouldn't have otherwise had.

The point being, a winning franchise isn't made in only one way. To hold steadfast to the promise of tanking, to the belief that there is only one way to get to the top is shortsighted.

Think of it like moneyball---if everyone is tanking (and many teams were this year), tanking becomes less valuable. The odds of The Celtics getting a top lottery position where slim even if trying to fail as The 76'rs, Knicks and Lakers all failed way worse than The C's even could have. Tanking guarantees nothing.

The key is what you do from where you are, not just getting to the one place and thinking it will solve everything.

We tanked last season and ended up with the 6th pick (of course not bad pick by Ainge). We only won 25 friggen games!!!! Ainge even tried to tank this season, he pretty much said so but of course can't outright say it. In order to be as bad as people wanted he would have had to get rid of any and everyone and that would be beyond stupid. People think IT4 was the reason why we made it in, they are crazy, we were winning without him. Heck, CBS had us winning with TAYSHUN PRINCE AND JAMEER NELSON!!! We won when any of our players went down. We won no matter how much adversity we faced, by fate or by DA.

It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

This thread is embarrassing.
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

I posted a thread with the historical champions and by and large there were very few top players were acquired via free agency.  The vast majority of the key members of title teams were acquired through the draft or through trading and the vast majority of the draft picks were top 5 picks and the players acquired via trade were traded at least in part for top 5 picks.  There were certainly exceptions of course, but from a historical perspective the draft is how you build a title team (either by drafting your core or drafting players you trade for your core).
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

I hate to pull the "what if" card but that was what really decided this game.

The hustle, passion, desire, and professionalism were all there. And the crowd was always behind the players.

It's not often you shoot 13% from 3 and below 65% from the line.

Hats off to this team. They did great even when no one gave them a shot.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.
