CP3's defense is indeed that good. He's #25 on the all-time steals list. Ricky Rubio>Smart though I don't agree with.

edit - that list mostly doesn't make any sense. No idea what it's based on.

If only we'd has this list two weeks ago, we wouldn't have squandered 20 pages debating the relative "merits" of Smart (26th) vs. Payton (27th).

Sounds about right, given their current play (Rondo and Smart). But Kyrie is way too low at 9. Lillard above him at 6? And Conley above him at 5? I don't think so...

Gotta love that Leadership metric. I'm sure that's rooted in very scientific things.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

Smart is ranked that high, lol? ;D Who could possibly be worse than he has been this year (for the most part)?  It's also surprising to see that Rondo even made the list, given that it's an espn article, which is why no Celtics fan should ever take it seriously. ;D

How is Rubio 12th
Over dragic

Also I'm not surprised rondo is so low he does not in with the mavs
Defensively yes but there offense is based on moving the ball
With rondo it has the same problem we had when we kept deferring to him
We became predictable
Also it takes away parsons, Ellis and dirks playmaking strengths

I think Scal said it perfectly last night about Smart - "he's a basketball player"

I don't think he'll ever lead the league in any statistical category except maybe wins. he's substance over style, there's going to be 10-15 guys at his position that will put up better numbers than him on avg. but he'll be the one taking home the prom queen.

Banks 2.0 should certainly rank behind superior talents in Exum and Payton. Exum is the youngest player in the league next year you'll see that I'm correct just like I was about Role player Rondo.

Well if you look at things like opponents production, Rubio is better than Smart.  He is a better steal generator as well.  Smart works hard, but virtually every metric you can use shows him to be a very average defender, so ESPN having him at 11 is about right.  Rubio gets a bad rap.  He isn't a bad defender at all and he gets a ton of steals.

Smart is more of a 2 guard at this point in his development. And is probably closer to a small forward then he is of a point guard.

I don't have any problem with Smart's ranking.  What is the difference between 20 or 23 or 26 or 29?  Not much.  I look at it as more of a range or a tier.  Right now he is in the bottom tier of starting PGs but that is not bad for a rookie these days.

And Rondo?  Also about right.  I look at the first few above him, Hill, Walker, Holiday, Lawson, Bledsoe; and I feel like Dallas would probably rather have these guys over Rondo but not a big difference.  Of course that is regular season Rondo, not playoff Rondo. ;)
