It's a cliche for a GM to take over a team and say they'll deliver a championship in 3-5 years.  Ainge is one of the only GM's I've ever seen actually accomplish that.  He took over a sad sack irrelevant franchise in turned them into a contender in 4 years.

You can look at his draft record and nit pick guys he whiffed on.  Would have been nice to have Giannis and Rudy Gobert in the last draft, for instance.  But that stuff is so crazy unpredictable.   He usually does a solid job with the picks he has.  He gets how to build a champion.  He gets when patience is necessary.  I wouldn't want anyone else running this team.

Danny Ainge is a very good gm and a lot of other teams would love to have him. I wouldn't trade him for any of the other gms.

What do you guys think about Danny Ainge performance as GM?

He is one of the best if not the best.   The one area, I think one can honestly be critical of him is his draft record.   Some of his picks have not panned out but the draft is never a sure thing.

Drafting is one of Danny's strengths. He gets a lot out of poor draft positions.

Next, it is good to read this thread's posts after so many "fire ainge" threads.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

No. No one that knows anything about how NBA basketball works anyways. If you could trade your GM, Danny would get a haul for himself. Definitely one of, if not THE best GM in the league.

Celtic fans should be thanking Jesus everyday for bringing along DA.

Another thing in defense of his drafting misses I see brought up is that a lot of GMs missed on those too.  I can't replace Ainge with a fantasy GM who is always perfect.  I compare him against the field and he seems to do really well compared to what I see from other GMs around the league.  In drafting and all areas.

The only time I ever really was bothered by a pick of his was Giddens.  Even if I would've chose other guys with other picks, they weren't bad picks.

Danny Ainge is a top tier GM and I don't think any other GM could of done what DA has given the hand he was dealt.

Only thing that made me go Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. was drafting Kelly over Giannis.

Only thing that has p---ed me off when looking back was drafting JR Gidens when we could of had Peckovic, Deandre Jordan, or Asik.

Otherwise: In DA we trust.

You can cross two of those guys off your list. We couldn't have drafted Pek or Asik in the first round. They had buyouts that meant they could only realistically be chosen in the second round.

Statistically Ainges picks have produced more win shares then 25 other GMs in the league.  That's amazing if you consider his usual drafting position, high teens low twenties.

Tell that to JaJaun Johnson, Fab Melo and J.R Giddens.   I don't think they would agree with you.  There a few guys I would rather have than KO too.

I think he's clearly one of the better GMs in the NBA.
