don't understand why ainge didn't just trade for him okc pick would have been worth the 10 mill

I think Ainge values $12 million extra room in payroll/cap space for next season.
I think you're correct.  The Sixers had so little payroll next year that adding $12 mil isn't much of an impact.

Go with what we got, draft the best player available.

Now they can't even attract reclamation projects.

Like Evan Turner?  Or Jordan Crawford?

You're being just a tad dramatic.  Others will correct you on the specifics.

Hah, just a tad?

First of all, he's still willing to sign here, he just wants to be control of where he plays next season. If he plays well and good teams will offer him a better deal, he can leave. If he doesn't, he gets to stay. It's called leverage. Players want all the leverage they can get. I would if I was a player too. In all honesty its probably in McGees best interest to take our deal cause if he plays well, at the end of the deal he's 28 and in position for one more good long term big money contract. But that's what he thinks he's worth. It doesn't mean he doesn't wanna come here.

But Danny understands that's not in the best interest of the Celtics. If McGee plays well for us over the end of this season, we won't even be able to be keep him without paying a new market rate. What's the point of low risk/high reward deals if your only getting a comparatively low award? If DA wanted to he could just give McGee the player option and get him in green. But when you have a player who WANTS to sign here, you have to decide whether the potential benefits are greater than the costs. And without control of that second year, Danny doesn't think it is.

Nothing to do with JaVale McGee not wanting to play in Boston and everything to do with Danny Ainge making a decision with the best interests of the Celtics in mind.

They were/are probably close to the minimum salary floor so they probably needed that.

I'd look it up but don't feel the need to spend any time reading or looking into the 76ers.

using the strecth rule you get 2/3rds of the room back if you really wanted the room this offseason, still think he should of traded for javale and that pick, i rather pay the 3 mill extra over 3 years to acquire the okc pick than have ainge sign a player in free agency using that money

Pay four million each year for three years for yet another 1st round pick?

I can't imagine Ainge selling that one to Wyc.

Ainge is something else =D

Team option vs player option is a big difference.

And now the league knows (if it ever was a surprise) that the Celts are looking for an athletic big.

You almost want to draft WCS right before the Celtics pick and have them surrender extra assets with their 1st

Sometimes the best signings are the ones you don't make.

I've always thought the Celtics should just guarantee both years.  Don't make it a player option in year 2 so he can leave if he has a good two months.  Don't make it a team option either. Both parties assume some risk -- the Celtics if he really does stink, McGee if he plays better.  Sometimes options make everything more complicated than it needs to be.

Either that, or just make it a one year deal.

The possible compromise I see is a player option for a partially guaranteed year.
