Interested to know the thoughts of others, viz. Jerebko and Bass. My sense is that it is going to be one or the other, but not both and that Jerebko - 2 years younger, likely cheaper to sign, and more of the stretch four so desired in today's NBA - is the preferred target.

Here is some commentary on the original Bulpett story: <http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2015/03/celtics-jonas-jerebko.html>

The Celtics have made it clear they have interest in keeping soon-to-be free agent Jonas Jerebko beyond the season, according to Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald. Jerebko, who’s in the final season of a four-year, $18MM pact, just arrived in Boston from the Pistons in a deadline-day trade.

“Jerebko’s somebody that we’ve tried to get before,” Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said. “We like shooting bigs. I love guys that know how to play and can shoot [three-pointers] and have length. As a spacer at the four position, I’ve always liked him. And that’s what he does well is spread the floor. He can shoot the three and he can attack close-outs. He just knows how to play.”

The sixth-year veteran is eligible to sign an extension at any time between now and June 30th, though it seems more likely he’ll sign a new deal in July, since veteran extensions are rare. The Bill Duffy client has spoken of his time with the Celtics as an opportunity to showcase himself, though he’s been complimentary of the Boston organization.

The Celtics have his Bird rights, though retaining them past the end of the July Moratorium would entail a cumbersome $8.55MM cap hold that would make it tough for the Celtics to open significant cap room. Boston has about $40.4MM in salary commitments against a projected $68MM cap. However, that $40.4MM doesn’t include the team’s two first-round draft picks, nor does it take into account the club’s valuable trade exceptions, which would go away if the team dipped under the cap, so it’s debatable whether Ainge would opt to open cap space, as I examined.

Jerekbo is averaging 9.8 points and 4.5 rebounds in 15.5 minutes per game in four appearances so far with the Celtics, better production than the 5.2 PPG and 3.1 RPG he put up in similar playing time with Detroit before the trade. A deal that would give him a salary similar to the $4.5MM he’s making this season would be a stretch, but while it’s just my speculation, he’s probably established himself as more than a minimum-salary player.

I would take Bass on my team every single time over Jerebko and given neither will cost a bunch, I would rather have Bass.

I could see him staying if he really likes it here and is willing to take a $3-$4M per type of deal.

Maybe we let him walk and promote Gigi, who can explode for us on a super cheap deal.

I think they have very different skill sets. I like both.

Everything depends on who we draft, and who else is available in free agency.

I really see DA making an effort to hold onto Jerebko for $4 mill or so over 3-4 years, with a team option or some such friendly twist...Assuming he is able to do so, I dont see him re-signing Bass unless it is for a 1 or 2 year deal on terms probably below what Bass will be seeking. Bass is currently making $7 mill per ($6.9) and will want more, on a multi-year deal.

The issue is going to be playing time. With KO, Sully and Zeller there is space for two more big men in a realistic rotation. Everyone hopes that one of these is a rookie, ideally Cauley-Stein or perhaps Kaminski (or your choice of first round pick). This leaves space for one more solid rotation guy, especially with Crowder (assuming he is re-signed, which I do) slotting in to play some in the front-court. I know there alot of moving parts that can change this equation (for example, if KO or Sully are moved as part of a sign and trade), but I think the odds are more on Jerebko staying long term than Bass....

bass is a very useful veteran with tons of experience on a very young team

but it depends on who we draft and free agency

also bass seems displeased with playing time so he may not even resign with us and go to a contender or  team in need of a PF like NY

i wouldnt mind resigning either of them but with sully, olynyk and jerebko? - it looks like bass may be the oddman out

also depends how well jerebko plays in this stretch as it has only been 5 games so far

I will eat my hat if the Celts resign Bass for any amount of money.  Just not needed.

What if both Sullinger and Olynyk are traded?

Celts need every player they can get that's better than average.

Beggars can't be choosers.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

How many power forwards are we going to have? Bass, Sully, KO, Jerebko.

Interesting, DA says he's interested in Love and Monroe as free agents in the off season.

Other people say DA is interested in Love and Monroe.  DA can't say he's interested without being fined.
