Probably one of his best game of his nba career.  vs OKC.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHiMGeOhygE

This guy got lost in the Magic organization while they also brought in Harris and Aaron Gordon.

But I remember last season seeing a very good up and coming player.  He played well against us one or two games also. 6'8 with 7'2 wingspan, quick, explosive.

Unfortunately the bad thing is that he is more like a Jeff Green than a talented SF or PF. Lacks a mid range game

This said, he still has potential be become a better Jeff Green.  And should not be too expensive to obtain.

2 2nd round picks or maybe even one plus Bass could do it

Trade idea

To Magic: 2 2nd round picks, Bass
To Celtics: Harkless, Ben Gordon

Lineup

Zeller
Sullinger
Turner
AB
Smart

Bench

KO
Harkless
Crowder
Thornton/Young
Pressey/Gordon

  • A true Celtic plays with heart.
Next to MKG, Harkless is my binky. Hes young, and has been criticized for not being aggressive enough on defense, which is ironic cause that's what hes known for. But his defensive splits are basically the same when hes off or on the floor, so I don't get the dRtG...

Hes 21.

Hes 21,

21.

He hasn't played any games since the first 17 games, and Gordon/Harris is eating his minutes.

Danny needs to go after this guy. I'd trust him over Crowder, simply cause of higher ceiling. Plus Crowder is a hustle glue guy, nothing special.

Yes! I started a topic on that earlier, I think he could turn out to be good player if you give him consistent minutes!

I really like his defense and athleticism!

I wouldn't mind taking harkless on
But the magic don't do that trade because they have Gordon + frye + Nicholson already taking up mins at 4 spot
So there is no need for bass
I'd try 1 2nd rounder for harkless straight up

Not sure how much magic value assets considering they signed Ben Gordon and frye so they clearly want to be in the playoffs
Also they traded affalo to Denver for what at the time was considered nothing (no offence to Fournier but he wasn't heralded as much before his magic breakout)

They want veteran players that can help them win

Also didn't they fire their head coach cuz he was giving players inconsistent playing times
So maybe they value harkless and want more playing time for him to develop

I just don't really see how he fits on this team.

Harkless is basically an athletic wing defender and that's about it.  He is no threat as a scorer, he's an average rebounder, and his passing numbers are about on par with Avery Bradley (i.e. terrible).

To make matters worse he can't even fill the Avery Bradley "3-and-D" role because his career 3PT accuracy of 31% makes him a non-thread from outside.  His career three throw accuracy of 59% is even worse.

I can totally understand other teams taking an interest in that type of player it they need that type of role filled, but don't we already have enough players in the "athletic defensive guys who can't score" mould?

I understand people are looking at this guy for potential, but even then there is a distinct difference between potential and pure youth - he might be young, but is his potential really that high?  Looking at past history athletic prospects who are average rebounders, poor passers and have limited scoring ability have rarely ever amounted to much in the league.  In fact I can't really even think of one such player who has ever become anything significant.

I can see the comparison to Jeff Green (defence, athleticism, average rebounding, poor passer) but there is one MASSIVE difference between those guys - Jeff Green has always been a capable scorer.  Over his first three years he averaged around 15 points per 36 minutes which (combined with his defence and athleticism) is enough to get you a role on a team.

Honestly, I'd rather stick with Crowder, Turner and Young.  Turner is better than Harkless now, Young (IMHO) has far higher upside, and Crowder we already have and pretty much fills the same 'athletic defender' role and is already on the roster.

The C's should be getting a 2nd for Bass and don't need Gordon, so in effect three 2nds for Harkless is way too much.

Why didn't you post clips of "probably one of his worst games of his career" and 'worst 10 plays of the season?"

Even Phil Pressey looks good on his highlight clips.

Meh ....

Decent player ......I don't see point for Celtics.....horizontal move

He doesn't move the needle on making the Celtics better .

His upside needs to shine in the next two years or so , or he'll just disappear to China.

You dont think the harkless vs okc game was impressive?
He needs a change of scenery. Worth 1 2nd round pick

It was impressive, but that's my point.  Below average guys like McLemore and Ross can look like superstars in highlights.  I would be fine taking a flyer on Harkless for a 2nd rounder but not because of his highlights.

Its not only about the highlights. Its the potential

Plus with prince likely to leave we could use another fwd

I was thinking Harkless and Nicholson could be had for next to nothing from the Magic and could take some of the minutes of Bass and Prince if we do trade them.
2019 historical draft.  Pick 12

Tim Duncan, Oscar Robertson, Elgin Baylor, Scottie Pippen, Willis Reed, Mitch Richmond, Sam Jones, Dan Majerle, Bob Cousy, Rasheed Wallace, Shawn Kemp, Marcus Camby

Should he?  Yes, IF the price is right.  Maybe a couple of 2nd rounders.

But I've read that he doesn't give his 100%.

So it's buyer beware with him.
