According to Basketball reference, Whiteside is making league minimum on an expiring deal.

Unless Hassan has a strong emotional connection with the Heat, he'd be stupid not to test free agency this offseason, and with our need for a centre and lots of cap room, he could be the perfect coup. The only issue is this could be Linsanity 2.0. He may just be in the form of his life or something has finally just clicked.

Thoughts?

The very contract that has made Hassan Whiteside such a bargain for the Miami Heat these next two seasons also will leave the Heat no recourse but to have to bid for him during 2016 free agency on no better than equal footing with most of the rest of the NBA.

In locking up Whiteside to a two-year deal that includes a non-guaranteed 2015-16 season at the NBA minimum, the Heat put themselves in position where they will have no choice but to allow the emerging center to become an unrestricted free agent in July 2016.

This podcast is actually from Feb 6th, which is when this thread died, but Grantland just posted a piece that referenced it.  It's from Sactown Royalty and starting at 15:40, they start talking about Whiteside and it gets kind of ridiculous.  I guess good for him getting it together, though

You mean unrestricted free agent without Bird rights, I do believe.
