Who is the better shooter.Who is better on defense.
Dawkins has more time in both d league and some miami time.
Young has age and height advantage and upside but as shooter does dawkins have advantage.

young has what three games red claws, at kentucky was not known for shooting and missed summer league and dawkins always known a shooter ,4yrs duke ,summer league and more d league-dawkins has a three pt shooter rep and still able to produce with hand in face .
You have a game on line today ,who gets the call for three in last seconds and why.

Young has actually outscored and outshot Dawkins this year in d-league, and he's only 19 to Dawkins's 23.

Young also likely just slipped out of the lottery at age 18 due to his auto accident, after proving his top-tier team's go-to scorer in the collegiate postseason, compared to the undrafted Dawkins, who never scored for a double digits average in four years of college.

So I'd say there's not really evidence that Dawkins is a better shooter than Young. He's presumably much more seasoned, while Young has the much higher upside.

dawkins 13 games pre maine 22.9pt average ,51% of threes and avg 9.5 threes per game with red claws  18point per for red claws one bad game his first  flawed his  % and ag 15 shots per game--i don't think young outscored dawkins in d league -only after 2 games red claws--dawkins has 22 avg over  total 15 games sioux  city and red claws

Dawkins is a scrap heap scrub.  He doesn't belong in the big league.

great bloodlines for young but you got to give dawkins his due almost a 50% 3 point shooter-from undrafted to making miami squad for opening game.

Like Olynyk, Young really needs 1-2, maybe 3 seasons of solid weight training before we'll probably get a feel for his ceiling.

People mention he's weak on D... youth, inexperience, strength key factors there for me. I like his length and his effort on the defensive end so far, if not the results.

Edge to Young - maybe Dawkins is a decent and inexpensive 3rd string off guard behind Bradley and Young?

To answer your question...

Dawkins is the better shooter.

Young is the better defender.

Dawkins is not a great athlete or defender.  Young is the better athlete and defender.

Dawkins is extremely one dimensional on offense.  Maybe a great comp right now is PJ Hairston (who we saw recently) ?

Dawkins is a way better shooter...and better overall.
