We dont make the playoffs , how bad can this team end up?

We trade bass, thornton, prince. Again how bad can this team end up?

Bc of how hard CBS wants his guys to play. Play to win no matter what attitude, even if we trade the vets away, we will prob still end up with only a 8-10th pick at the draft. Other teams late in the seasom will start sitting their top guys/tank mode while CBS will want to finish strong.

Usually picks between 8-15 is a game of luck anyways. You want KCP or Schroeder??  Royce white or Terrence Jones?

So it could be more valuable for this team to sneak into 8th, gain the experience/feel the playoff atmosphere to better prepare for next season. Come draft night , Danny has enough picks to move up to 8-10 area or earlier anyways .

Star Players who were drafted ouside top 10:

Kobe Bryant
Steve Nash
Joe Johnson
Klay Thompson
Al Jefferson
Clyde Drexler
Karl Malone
Shawn Kemp
John Stockton
Jermaine O'neal
Reggie Miller

Most of them are alpha-male stars. The point is chance of getting a star player in that range is close to top 10.

I do not see anyone on the roster capable of drawing a free agent of worth.   Do you think guys will come here because they want to play with Oly and Sully?

No, I think we will find two free agents stars who can be convinced to come to a playoff team.  We're one of just a few teams that will have the room for two.  And if we make the playoffs, we'll be the only one of those.  I imagine a lot more stars will would want to pair up and join a playoff team than would want to join a 19 year-old #1 pick.

I could make a list of star players who WERE drafted in the top 10, but it would be 6 pages long and include 70% of NBA hall of famers.

If there are good deals, we make them. When we play games, we try to win.

This is not complicated.

Consider, though, all the players drafted outside the top 10 that didn't become stars.

Roughly 95%.  Not exaggerating.

Consider also all the teams that spend years in the lottery and get multiple top ten picks and still never are any good.

The sooner the Celtics make the playoffs, the sooner Brad Stevens will be perceived by free agents as a guy they want to play for.

The sooner we get some first round playoff chops, the sooner we can make the 2nd and 3rd and 4th rounds.

Yeah......the young fellows have something to be excited about and it will help the coach with confidence too.

If any vets are still on the team .  Then it might feel good to make the playoffs once more before retiring.

Playing sports to loose just goes against the competitive spirt of human nature.

I do sort of agree that if we aren't tanking, we might as well be trying to make the playoffs. Picking top 3 (or perhaps, in this draft, 2) is extremely valuable, but the difference between #10 and #16 doesn't necessarily outweigh the value of playoff experience, even leaving aside the potential to attract a FA.
