My guess is they'll simply just let his deal expire. Maybe a buyout after next year's deadline, but that would indicate that there will be a team willing to employ Wallace on a minimum salary next March. I'm not sure there will be any takers.

And I don't see us using the stretch provision, as I doubt we'll be major players in FA this summer.

I don't see a stretch provision under any circumstance personally.

He either rides the contract to it's bitter end, or it's used in a trade between now and it's end.  Those strike me as the two best scenarios.  The longer we hang on to it, the better.

I think he'll be used as trade filler (costing us an extra pick to get rid of him in the process) for big-time player this summer after we've filled up on at least one major free agent.  Like DMC after we've gotten max deals to two other free agents.  Doing it before could take up some of that cap room best spent in free agents.

I think they clearly just let it expire after next season. We won't be good for a bit, no need to give up assets to get out of it.

Ainge always finds a way to use this type of contract to his advantage. The expiring plus picks could net him a real fine piece. He's got me curious on what he'll do.

This maybe a stupid question.

Can't we just buy out his contract?

SG: Paul George / Aaron McKie / Bradley Beal
SF: Paul Pierce / Tayshaun Prince / Brian Scalabrine

I give it a 50% chance his contract is used as salary balance in a trade next year.

40% chance he just expires after next season (contract, not him personally)

10% he's bought out part way through the season.  I think this is very unlikely since I don't really think there will be other teams that will want him next season even for vet min (which would be the reason he'd accept a buyout).  I could be wrong about that since he seems durable but doesn't do a lot on the floor most of the time

I'd trade a late 1st round pick and Wallace for Lance Stephenson.

My guess is in a trade for salary balance.  Danny has a lot of 2nd rounders he can toss in there to sweeten the deal.

I've been waiting for Wallace's contract to become expiring ever since we got him so we can trade him in a Wally/Ratliff type deal.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

probably. though let's revisit this when he is finally gone, and we see what the draft choices from the nets look like.

in retrospect, we may all look back and think that this was actually a tasty poison pill to swallow.

...and yes, it helps me feel better about the whole wallace situation to think and imagine beyond it.  :)

p.s. my dictionary shows me "ultimately." just to let the OP know.
