Wizards Receive: Marcus Thornton, Celtics 2016 Second Rounder (via CLE), Jeremy Lamb, Phil Pressey

Thunder Receive: Dejuan Blair, Rasual Butler

Financially, this deal doesn't work in any direction.  Celtics would have 19M incoming with only 9M outgoing.  Thunder have 12M out, but only 3M in.

It does make a slight difference with the Robinson, Prince, and Rivers contracts still listed. The idea would be to waive Perkins. And that remaining 10.2 million could conceivably be absorbed into the Rondo trade exception.

We'll still be over the cap when your trade is finished.  If so, we can only accept an extra 5M if the outgoing is 9.8M or more, OR 150% if the outgoing is less than 9.8M.

So, if we send out 10M, we could take back as much as 15.  If we sent out 6M, we could take back 9.

If your looking at the trade machine, you need to disregard Robinson, Rivers, and 4.17 million of Tayshaun Prince's 7.7 million, assuming they do buy out his contract.

I'm not an expert, but I still don't think it's enough.  The trade has us taking on $10M in extra salary.   We are 2.2M over the cap.  Assuming that you could clear Robinson + Rivers + 4.17 million, but you take on 10M you would still be over the cap.

All that aside, I'm sure you could find a way to make a similar trade work.  I'm not sure Danny wants Porter for 3 years, but I haven't had a chance to watch him much this year.

Unless the player coming back is a star player, Ainge is not adding salary obligations beyond this year. He is trying to create a "clean" roster with a maximum amount of cap space and draft picks. All the wheeling and dealing he has been doing recently points exactly in that direction. Adding Otto Porter is just not going to happen.
