Yuck. How could this possibly benefit us?

Edit: I feel the need to clarify that I have been following this deal since it was announced last night. But this is the first I've heard that Salmons would come to Boston. It had always been Prince in the deal. Not Salmons. What would we do with Johnny Freaking Salmons? Brad will be in the same predicament as he is now, where he'll feel compelled to play the vet over the youths.

There's a #1 pick, too.
in terms of real benefits to the celtics, you could easily remove the word "too" from your post.  ;D
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Yup. It's the ONLY reason the Celtics are making this trade.

It's going to be Rondo vs Green in the WCF

Why Salmons though? Of course I knew about the trade for Prince. But how does Danny agreeing to add Salmons into the deal make any sense?

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.

Who cares, they'll be waived either way.
The trade is about the pick.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Posted this in another thread, but it's so wonderful I decided to post it here as well.

In 2000 we draft Jerome Moiso with the #11 pick... In 2001 we trade Moiso for Philly's 2003 1st... which we used to take Dahntay Jones at #20 and essentially trade it to Memphis on draft night for Kendrick Perkins (who they selected 27th)... who we later used to trade for Jeff Green.

In 2003, Ainge, much to the chagrin of Celtic fanboys of the time, trades our "superstar" Antoine Walker in a package that nets several pieces... one of them being a kid named Jiri Welsch.  In 2005, Ainge traded Jiri Welsch for the Cavs 2007 1st rounder.  In 2006 he trads that future Cavs 1st rounder (that ended up being Rudy Fernandez) to the Phoenix Suns for the player they took 21st... some scrub named Rajon Rondo.

When you lament the loss of Jeff Green and Rajon Rondo, you're effectively lamenting the loss of Jerome Moiso and Jiri Welsch.

I, for one, am very excited to see what Jerome Moiso nets us in 2020.

My understanding is we are getting both Salmons and Prince. Am I wrong here?

no your right. It can't be just Salmons. Salaries won't match.

Both will likely be waived. Or Danny will keep Salmons in case crowder or young gets injured or do not play for whatever reason. Have that extra SF.

Can't keep Prince. He is going to complain about not getting playing time

Not wrong. And I don't get it unless they're both going to bought out immediately (waiving them makes no sense because we'd be paying them full salaries). I'm terrified that Stevens will play these guys heavy minutes, like Doc always used to, rather than accepting our fate of huge losses in favor of young players getting extended minutes.
