Dr J for starters. Then MJ, and possibly Nique.

I totally agree with this. He was always my 2nd favorite player (to Bird) growing up and it's because he was so exciting. You have to imagine how happy I was when he played for the Cs for one season.

But Vince Carter is right up there. Not only was he the best dunker [of his time], he was also a superstar. That makes a real difference and is one of the reasons dunk contests can be a bit blah.

This inspired me to watch the best dunks from Dr. J, Wilkins, and Carter.

It's not close.  Vince is #1 by a wide margin.

TP for the videos. Although, I think it's close for all 3. It really depends on what style you prefer.

First of all, you're comparing Vince Carter's generally wide open dunks to Dr J's contest dunks, and some of those were contested by HOF bigs. Secondly, for what you're looking for, those wouldn't be Dr J's top dunks. For starters, look for the one where he leaves his feet behind the foul line and dunks it. I've seen a fair amount of players try that in dunk contests, getting a running start from the other end line and still not be able to do it. Dr J did it in the run of play.

Here's Jordan and Lebron's as well.  I might put Jordan at #2 behind Vince.  Although Jordan's ability to carve through a defense with the ball to get to the dunk has to be the most impressive.  #7 for Jordan is amazing how he is able to dribble around and through the defense.

Thank you Knuckleballer for posting the videos, but I agree with bballdog that is about style. There is something about the power/hangtime/quickness of 'Nique's dunks that I just like. Obviously Vince was an amazing dunker and I would say he had more creativity, but I guess my childhood memories are winning out.

Thanks for the TPs.  I was thinking along the lines of height, power, showmanship.

Blake Griffin had to be the most impressive in the game today.  Right?

Give me MJ, if only because I can't think of any meaningful dunks Carter actually had.  His game has historically been flash over substance, and I think his dunks are a reflection of that.

Over the last three seasons, Carter has dedicated himself to leadership and defense.  If he'd shown that commitment early in his career, he'd be known as an all-time great, rather than just as a great dunker.  Better late than never, but it's one of those "what might have been" things.

Random but...

No disrespect to Carter, who probably got hated on a little more than he should have as time passed and he didn't win, but most people would still probably take prime Carter over prime Pierce and it's not even close to me. Pierce any day. Scoring wise it's a wash and Pierce was by far the better passer and rebounder. Pierce was still the better defender by a mile even before KG came along and Pierce rededicated himself to defense.

Sometimes I'm reminded of how underrated Pierce was and it blows my mind. Anyways...

Draft: 8 first rounders in next 5 years.

Cap space: $24 mil.

It depends, heavily, on the team surrounding the player. One of the greatest what-if combinations of the last 20 years has to be what happens to Toronto if Vince and T-Mac stay on the team.

As for in-game dunkers, that's hard. Lots of great dunkers through the years. I'd take Shawn Kemp over Blake Griffin, though. I know that for sure.

just a dunker? he is #25 all-time scorer in NBA history and pretty clutch early in his career.

He was at  UMass basketball camp in 1998 that I went to . He was putting on a dunk showcase ,it was amazing to watch that athleticism from about 10 ft away. :o

That's the day I realized I'd never be a professional athlete ha
