if any teams ask for zeller as a back-up center for a contending team
what is zeller value considering we got him cheap in cleveland
would you ask for 1st round picks or 2nd round picks?
including a trade fillers of?

1st round pick in the teens. I wouldn't trade him for a late first in the 20s. Unlikely to get anyone better than Zeller once you go out of the teens.

I wouldn't give him up for anything less than a first. He's young -- only in his third year in the league -- and cheap, and has really shown incredible improvement despite Cleveland mucking up his development last year. There's a dearth of centers in the league and Tyler's one who can play at least 20 mpg for a legitimate club right now.

Per 36 Tyler is averaging around 17.5 ppg/10 rpg/2.5 apg/1.5 bpg on 65% shooting. He's also shooting 82% on FTAs. That's all really good stuff.

Lastly:

- there's no character issues with him
- his game is extremely compatible with today's popular style. He can run the floor and hit the occasional midrange jumper.

Draft: 8 first rounders in next 5 years.

Cap space: $24 mil.

He's playing at least as well as you would expect a mid first round pick to play.  He's only 24, cost controlled for a couple more seasons after this, and playing well in this system.  That about makes him untradeable.  If the Rockets offered the Pelicans pick, would you take it?  It will probably be around #14 and is protected for the first 3 picks.  I wouldn't.

A first in the 14-21 range. Just because C's have a while before they are good. Also Z will be up for contract with Sully.  Hard to pay both if each is very successful.

Look at it this way - if his draft was redrafted, where would he go? That's the type of draft pick I want. (I'd put him somewhere around 10-15).

A just-barely non-lottery first round pick seems fair.

I agree that 10-15 seems about right.  But would you make that trade?  We need a center and a bird in the hand...

If I knew I was getting at least the 15th pick in the next draft and didn't have to take on a long-term contract I would.

I love Zeller but if he was the answer at center we would be an above average team IMO. On the other hand he is still developing... tough to say how good he could be in a few years.

More to the point if we get 3 picks in the next draft we could trade up for one of the star centers.

Geez, some wouldn't trade Zeller for a mid-first, but Rondo just left for a late first? Yikes  :o

Yes, trading Zeller for a pick that we hope can yield someone like Zeller is great management.

No I'd trade Zeller for someone like Karl Towns.

Well, Rondo had everything going against him. Coming off injury, arguably past-prime, in terrible form, and on an expiring deal/probably asking for the max at the end of season.

Zeller is the exact opposite. Young, cost-controlled, and improving.

He may be worth more. Doesn't necessarily mean he's the better player.
