He's a restricted free agent next summer.

Why would we want him?
- Given our current backcourt rotation, we need a guard who can score and consistently beat defenders off the dribble. I think he can be a go-to-guy in this league.
- He would fit well with our stretch bigs(KO and Sully) creating for him driving lanes for him to exploit.
- Will just turn 25 next year and still has a lot of upside.

What are the challenges?
- Would he be interested in playing on a rebuilding team?
- He may ask for a max contract and we may need to offer him that in order for OKC to not match the offer. (I don't think he's a max player)
- Needs to start and that means either Smart or Bradley will be relegated to the bench. (I prefer the latter)

Every time I see this kid he takes charge of the game. He's dying to be the man on a team of his own. If Smart works out at PG, Reggie would look good in green.

With the money we have coming off the books next FA season, we should take a good look at him.

I like Jackson as a starting PG on the Cs... bring Smart off the bench and give him some time to mature. I like to see Ainge offer him somewhere around the 8-12mil mark.

OKC would easily match that offer IMO. :)

He's good, but what happened to his 3 pt%, which was never that great to begin with?

That is one of the main reasons why I'm reluctant to give him the Max contract.

You're probably right, Rondo's contract was about 12mil, would you pay him more??

I think that in on order to acquire him we need to overpay him, maybe a deal like Gordon Hayward's. Given that the current NBA TV deal is nearing its end in 2016 and the fact that he's just turning 25 next year, I'd be down with that.

I like the idea of a Reggie Jackson + Marcus Smart in a two PG backcourt.

Reggie 'Action' Jackson would look nice in green.   But we rarely land free agents, so I don't know why he would come to a rebuilding team.  If Ainge feels this guy can be a starting 2 the move would make sense, and keep Smart at the 1.  However if that happens, Avery Bradley immediately becomes a heavily overpaid rotation/bench guard.

RFAs are fool's gold. If it's a good player, the other team will always match.

Then again, this is legendarily cheap OKC we're talking about, so I guess Jackson is more attainable than Butler/Leonard.

Jackson is exactly the kind of almost-star that might be willing to come to a rebuilding team as well. Young, improving, sick of playing second-fiddle and looking for someplace where he can be alpha dog.

Great words from a great man

For sure. Good size and would provide plenty of playmaking for the team. Not sure that we'll relegate Bradley to the bench with his contract though.
