Smith's main concern could be establishing he can still play big minutes at a high level for his next contract, instead of getting a ring.

So he can get that chance with the Rockets and also have a chance to win a championship

yeah.  SVG had more time to try to get rid of Smith.   He could not even trade him to the knicks for Amare?  Thrown in a couple of 2nds to get a deal done.

Worse case, at least buy him out.  How can you eat 27 million dollars?   dayam

If Josh Smith committed to shooting a Zeller-esque 85% of his total FGAs within ten feet of the rim, he'd be the Miller High Life of Zeller/Brandan Wright types.

Draft: 8 first rounders in next 5 years.

Cap space: $24 mil.

Maybe no one wants to take on his contract?

Either way, I agree. Should have atleast waited a little bit more and tried a little harder in moving him. Something tells me there's more to it than just bad fit.

Why would the Knicks want his contract?

Their plans involve making a FA splash, not wasting cap space on Josh Smith.

Boston, so he can team up with his buddy Rondo....no, wait...

Just what I was thinking--good timing Danny!

depends on if they actually think they can get a free agent better than Josh Smith in the next two years.

so help me god if smith goes to Dallas Wyc and Steve must FIRE DANNY NOW Because that makes certain that he would have gone to boston and possibly got us a title but danny quit on the organization and most importantly he quit on the fans.

I guess that means they would want to keep Monroe and they may offer him some decent cash next year, now that they're gonna be committed to a Monroe/Drummond front court.
Monroe has played really well this year. It has been looking more and more likely that Detroit change their mind and choose to keep him this summer.

I think a lot of that depends on where Detroit lands in the draft lottery.  No way theyll give Monroe the max if they can land Okafor, Towns, or maybe even Stein on a rookie deal

Someone else mentioned the impact to the Bass trade market as well.  Not helpful for either.  I think there is a good chance that we are going to be disappointed in the return for Jeff Green if he is the next to go.
