Yes, you read correctly - they've just waived Josh Smith.  The same Josh Smith with two years and $26 million left on his contract after this year:

Quote from: Marc Stein
The Detroit Pistons have just announced the release of Josh Smith. Stunning

Hahaha, holy cow.  Looks like they're siding with SVG over there.

What happens next - they're on the hook for his salary, but he can be claimed off waivers for the vet min?  If that's true does the team claiming need to be under the cap?  Not really sure how this goes as I've never seen it with a contract this size.

I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

I don't know either, but as SVG is the coach as well as the GM, is that much of a surprise?

He must have really done something wrong to be cut (in addition to playing poorly). Not sure why they didn't send him home while they attempted to trade him. Stretching him next year would at least save them some future cap space.

I really wonder where he signs? Houston?

Does this make it more likely that the Pistons are able to retain Monroe's services?

Wojo just tweeted that they're going to use the stretch provision.

They couldn't get anybody to even give them a 2nd round pick for Smith. SVG had it

I can see the Mavs, Kings as two teams interested in bringing him in. Maybe Hawks will be interested again?

I guess that means they would want to keep Monroe and they may offer him some decent cash next year, now that they're gonna be committed to a Monroe/Drummond front court.
Play to win.  Always.

Boston, so he can team up with his buddy Rondo....no, wait...

This is like the Vin Baker debacle on steroids.

Even the Red Sox and Yankees hate having to do stuff like this.
