Great decision by the Pistons. I hate players like Josh Smith. He's a dumb street ball player with tremendous athletic ability.
I guess Stan shouted him "No more long two or three", while Josh Smith lunched a long two.

He must have really done something wrong to be cut (in addition to playing poorly). Not sure why they didn't send him home while they attempted to trade him. Stretching him next year would at least save them some future cap space.

I really wonder where he signs? Houston?

Wojo just tweeted that they're going to use the stretch provision.
I just read up on the stretch provision, I think it is actually more advantageous to stretch him this year because it will allow Detroit to spread his salary out over a longer period of time.

They couldn't get anybody to even give them a 2nd round pick for Smith. SVG had it

I can see the Mavs, Kings as two teams interested in bringing him in. Maybe Hawks will be interested again?
Not only could they not get anyone to give them a second, they waived him because every team they talked to about trading for him wanted Detroit to include a first as payment for taking on Smith.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

No one wanted Josh Smith with that contract.  You'd have to be insane to think he's not going to register significant interest as a cheap contract pickup, though.

Smith is prob a happy guy either way.   Somebody is going to pick him up for the min. He will be coming off the bench

I actually see that happening

I can see the Lakers and Cavs taking a chance with him, especially at the vet minimum.

Lakers have nothing to lose. Cavs could use a rim protector.

Hate to see him help either of those teams at all.

At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

I think you can draw a parallel to Antoine Walker during his first Celtics term.  When Danny got the job, he (and plenty of others) hated Antoine's game - which included his 'volume' tendency when it came to launching 3's.

Difference is they never cut Antoine.  Wonder whether Smith winds up in a similar way - as a part time player the rest of his career.

If Dallas manages to nab him as a Wright replacement... my goodness.

I'd also keep an eye on the Clippers, the Cavaliers, and... the Spurs.

Edit: oh, and Houston.

Wow.

I guess they tried to move him and no one wants him? Did they even try to move him?

I like the Clipps idea at first but wonder, the way Smith is going, is he even better than Matt Barnes now?

I can see Clippers, Mavs, Houston or Cavs

but definitely do not see the Spurs. I don't think Smith will fit into Pop's style.

Smith on a cheap contract is infinitely better than Matt Barnes.  The guy has terrible BBIQ, but come on, he's still a legitimate NBA player.  Coming off the bench for a contender with minimal impact on their cap?  That'd be amazing.

I guess that means they would want to keep Monroe and they may offer him some decent cash next year, now that they're gonna be committed to a Monroe/Drummond front court.

Good point. Yes, I think that makes sense.

And I can't see the Spurs as being the team he signs with. Based on his friendship with Melo and Rondo - possibly Mavs or Knicks?
