Great article by Paul Flannery: http://www.sbnation.com/2014/12/21/7429969/brad-stevens-celtics-rumors-indiana-rebuild-sunday-shootaround

The key sections:

Quote
"I’ve committed to being here," Stevens told me before Thursday’s practice at the team’s facility. "I’ve already left a situation once and that was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to choose to do. This is something that as long as they want me to be here, this is what I want to be doing and I’m going to give it everything I’ve got. I know it’s all specific to the rumor mills and the discussion of one spot. I think they’ve got a good coach who’s done a helluva job. He doesn’t deserve that speculation.

"I’m the head coach of the Boston Celtics," Stevens continued. "This is the job. This is where I am. This is what I want to do really well and I’m committed to being as good as I can every single day for the Celtics."

Quote
If Stevens’ hire was a surprise last summer to casual observers, it wasn’t to league insiders. Several teams had been after him thanks to his run at Butler that included two trips to the national championship game. Most felt it was a matter of when, not if, he would make the jump to the pros. Years ago, before Butler played Duke in the national championship game, Celtics team president Danny Ainge pointed to Stevens and said to one of the team’s owners, "That’s the best coach in college basketball."

Quote
Night after night, as teams comes through Boston, opposing coaches and players have praised the Celtics for two things: their competitiveness and their coaching.

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich: "He was a hell of a coach before he got here and he’ll be an even better coach as time goes on. He’s a special guy, that’s why Danny Ainge went and got him."

Cavaliers forward Kevin Love: "I think Brad Stevens is an awesome coach. They’re going to be able to figure it out as they accumulate more talent and like I said, I’m a big fan of Brad Stevens."

The article goes on to mention things such as impressive player development among other positive signs early on from CBS. I am a fan of CBS. He has led the team to a much better record than I would have initially expected for two years in a row until in both years DA stripped the team (a management approach I am OK with). The Cs are currently ranked 8th in point differential for the month of December.

Other random observations:

- Magic had this to say about the Rondo trade:

The Boston Celtics and President Danny Ainge made a great basketball decision.

The Celtics put themselves in position to build through the draft.

Perhaps some venom being directed at Lakers management here?

Lastly, kind of an odd tweet from Sean Grande here:

Some are under the misconception the Celtics "rebuild" began today.
Record the last FIVE years? Since Xmas '09?

197-196

It began years ago

Bump because of the prejudice exhibited around here towards threads posted at 3 AM.

good thread. good post. good article. good stuff...except for being posted at an evil time.  >:( but a tp anyway.

ainge made a great hire and commitment to CBS. i think stevens will be central to helping lead the celtics to a better tomorrow. but, of course, without talent on the court CBS can only coach this team so far. ainge has to assemble the talent for him to coach.

i expect stevens to become one of the premier coaches of the nba. now if he only would learn to smoke cigars.  ;D
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Haha, thanks! TP right back at you.

I'd love to see what CBS can do with some real talent soon but in all likelihood that's probably a couple years down the road. Later on I'm going to start a thread with an idea that could make the C's a playoff contender by next year.

Can you imagine Stevens and his baby face smoking a cigar? Priceless.
