So here's one for you -- do the Mavericks retire Kidd's number?

Probably not but I sure as hell wouldn't fight it if they did.

The Max retirement never really made much sense to me but there are few of those hanging up there already so it wouldn't shock me if they did based on that.

I hope this poll gets a solid 100 votes to really gauge where Celtic nation is on this.

Absolutely, unequivocally, YES!!  I can't believe that this is actually a question.

I'd say no but I'm more critical than others when it comes to retiring numbers.  I was against retiring DJs number and am leaning against retiring KGs right now.   wasn't really on board with Max's either but he was here for 2 titles and the MVP of one of them

I voted "no" because when you think about it, Rondo will probably play less than half of his career with the C's.   Yeah he won one title but he was really the 4th wheel on that bus.

I wouldn't retire KG or Ray Allen's either though, so use that for comparison.

I like Rondo but no

I always said when I left the Celtics, I could not go to heaven, because that would

I love Rondo, but I think no.  How many numbers are the C's supposed to retire from that 1 championship team?  They don't have that many numbers left to begin with.

Pierce is a definite.
If anybody is next in line it's Garnett.
But then Rondo too?
What about Ray Allen?

Pierce is the face of a generation.  Garnett was the heart and soul of a championship team.  What was Rondo?  The best player on a few playoff series?  He was never really the face of the team, once the torch was passed to him he played 38, 30, and 22 games (and the C's were 32-58 in that time).

I love you Rondo, but I think no.  Though I still wouldn't be surprised if him (and Ray) got the Max treatment, some time in 2035 when the C's are rebuilding again and resort to gimmicks to fill the seats.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

I love Rondo, but he's a few seasons (or 1 banner) short of even being in the discussion for having his number retired
I'm bitter.

Absolutely, unequivocally, YES!!  I can't believe that this is actually a question.

I could not disagree more.

Rondo wasn't even one of the 3 best players on a championship team, and when the team was officially handed over to him to lead he responded by averaging 8.3 points on 40% shooting and was ultimately traded b/c he thought he was worth a max contract.  NOTHING about that says "legend that will be memorialized in the rafters of the Boston Garden for all times".

I love him, but no. I don't retire kg's either.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

Ok, so that's really interesting to me, because if I had to pick one franchise that would've retired Kidd's number, it would've been New Jersey (prior to the debacle that was his coaching career there). It was where he played his best ball, where he lead the team to the Finals, etc. That or Phoenix.

Sure, he was drafted by the Mavericks, but he never really had a meaningful role on the team until he came on as a veteran presence in 2008. One Ring and six (real) years with the team... that's enough for a banner retirement?

A little shocked so many people are saying No.

I'd be sad if they didn't retire his number.

Rondo represents an entire generation of Celtics fans.

He 100% embodies everything we want our Celtics to be, tough.. hard nosed confident players who don't back down to anyone, like Russell, Bird, KG, Pierce.

In game 6 of the 2008 NBA Finals Rondo blew the game open on both sides of the court, recording 21 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assist and 6 steals in 31 minutes to secure the Celtics a Championship over the Lakers.  When do you think we will ever see that again? The answer is easy, Never. It was the single greatest close out game in NBA finals history.

Rondo is a part of Celtics history.

The Celtics were 11-3 in Playoff Series with Rondo.. and we got robbed in 2 of those(2010 Finals and 2012 ECF, both went 7 games).

Rajon Rondo did things on a basketball court none of us had ever seen before. (catch a rebound at the foul line with 1 hand and before landing shoot it back in and all sorts of weird stuff just like that)

Rondo is probably one of the top 5 greatest passers of all-time.

We will not be watching another player like Rondo any time soon, as he is one of the rarest players in NBA history.

I will be sad if we dont honor him and I would find it highly offensive to see anyone else out there in his number.

No one else deserves to wear number 9.

1 Championship (the only one we have gotten in 28 years)
4 Time All Star
4 Time All Defense
Recorded 10 Triple Doubles in the Playoffs

Celtics franchise records:
Most Assist in a single season (794)
Most Assist in a playoff game (20)
Most Assist per game (11.7)
4th All Time in Assist (right in between Bird and Pierce)
1st in Steals per game (1.9)
Most steals in a single season (189)
