A little shocked so many people are saying No.
I'd be sad if they didn't retire his number.
Rondo represents an entire generation of Celtics fans.
He 100% embodies everything we want our Celtics to be, tough.. hard nosed confident players who don't back down to anyone, like Russell, Bird, KG, Pierce.
In game 6 of the 2008 NBA Finals Rondo blew the game open on both sides of the court, recording 21 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assist and 6 steals in 31 minutes to secure the Celtics a Championship over the Lakers. When do you think we will ever see that again? The answer is easy, Never. It was the single greatest close out game in NBA finals history.
Rondo is a part of Celtics history.
The Celtics were 11-3 in Playoff Series with Rondo.. and we got robbed in 2 of those(2010 Finals and 2012 ECF, both went 7 games).
Rajon Rondo did things on a basketball court none of us had ever seen before. (catch a rebound at the foul line with 1 hand and before landing shoot it back in and all sorts of weird stuff just like that)
Rondo is probably one of the top 5 greatest passers of all-time.
We will not be watching another player like Rondo any time soon, as he is one of the rarest players in NBA history.
I will be sad if we dont honor him and I would find it highly offensive to see anyone else out there in his number.
No one else deserves to wear number 9.
