He had to pull the trigger now or we miss out on the Okafur sweepstakes.

We've got a great chance at Okafur, Towns or Muiday now.

I'm actually pretty excited for the draft.

And if we miss on those three? I mean, this is what we we're saying with Parker, Wiggins and Embiid and we got none of those three.

Stanley Johnson and Mario Hezonja look pretty darn good; I'm just about as happy as can be with Marcus Smart and he was drafted in that range

Also edit: Myles Turner looks to be going around 10ish.  I want to see him at the combine but that would most likely be a steal

This trade doesn't change the fact that:

A.) KO, Smart, Young, Sully and even Green are fun to watch this year

B.) The Celtics are my team

C.) They most likely weren't making the playoffs this year, anyway

D.) Rondo probably wouldn't have signed here at the end of the season, anyway

Big point here, I think if DA thought he could sign Rondo to a reasonable deal he wouldn't have traded him. I think a lot of the blame for this trade lies with Rondo, for playing however he wanted and demanding too much money. You don't get the max at 8ppg, points scored are more valuable than assists.
Actually, this is a vicious circle. Players know that Ainge is ready to use them as chips in a casino any time and react accordingly.

Danny gave up too quick.....he absolutely panicked big time.

For this garbage ......he might as well tried to resign Rondo.....and if not .....then let him walk.

I have no faith this will work out before  Danny gets fired .

Danny just got shafted and shafted Boston Celtics for another 20 plus years .

There is now ZERO chance of EVER getting three star players together .

Go Hornets

Sure. You know what also is good? Using the assets we already have and surround Rondo with better talent.

That's safer than gambling on the draft and acquiring garbage.

He had to do something quick so he can be able to flip them at the trade deadline.
Keeping Rondo wouldn't help you get 3 star players together (Rondo is not a star player anymore)
Before a game on Christmas against the Pacers, Bird told Chuck Person that he had a present for him. During the game, Bird shot a 3-pointer in front of Person. Immediately after releasing the ball, Bird said to Person, "Merry F!#*ing Christmas!" and then the shot went in.

I would love to have surrounded Rondo with big names, but I just don't know how that would have possibly happened.  The biggest thing to your point though is that Rondo could plausibly talk a big name into signing with us over another team.  Whether or not that would have worked is again something we'll never know....

ha, ha...outstanding cartoon clip, and well placed. tp for keeping this place funny.

Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Agreed.

All I'm saying is that it's much better off going of the route than taking a garbage deal. Whether it works or not is of course, we dont know.

But even so, it's still better than this trade.

As an old guy that was used to titles every couple few years or so during the 70s and 80s, the only thing worse than being a Celtic fan from 1986-2008 was being Red Sox fan before 2004. iT SUCKED. Waiting for a couple decades to go by while your team sucks every year is an awful experience. The next 4-6 years are going to really drag. I really don't want to be in my 70s some 20 years or so from now finally enjoying another banner sometime before I die.
TP for the experience, my friend. I'll stock up on the essentials.  :D

Just so I am on record, this is the biggest poop deal I've ever seen.

Absolutely better to let him walk away. Humiliating.

I'm so sick and tired of hearing things like this. This entire thread is embarrassing. If you don't want to watch this team because they traded away a player who was gonna leave for NOTHING at the end of the season, knock yourselves out. I think that's a dumb thing to do. It's about the name on the front of the jersey, not the back. There's also 15 other players on the team that are gonna play their hardest and who deserve the fans support. The Celtics are bigger than one player.

It stinks that Rondo had to go but it had to happen for this team to start a new chapter. They have a core of Smart, Sullinger, and Olynyk to build around  a zillion first round picks and trade exceptions, and for once, flexibility when it comes to the salary cap. Yes, it might be a few years of rebuilding but I have faith this team will get to the top again.

There are some dark years ahead of us. Boston is probably not going to contend

DA strategie is to fight with Philadelphia 76's for the 14 place at NBA EAST Conference...

Tremendous value for a declining player. Good move by Ainge. Glad he didn't waste max money on a player performing at a below-average level.
Not sure I'd call it tremendous value, but the worst thing you can do is pay top money for below-star performance and that would have been the situation if he stayed.
