If you're willing to leave a fanbase because of something like this, then you were never a true fan in the first place, OP.
Look at my username, I've stuck with this team my whole life and always will. I grew up in the ML Carr years so this is nothing.

You just lost a fan.

I don't have a problem with you not liking the deal, and I'm not going to make idiotic posts insulting your fandom, because they're nonsense.  However, I will say that I don't think trading Rondo is the hill you want to die on as a fan.

The trade sucks, no question.  But drafting Smart meant that it was necessary.

You can be a die hard fan of a team and still be disgusted with that team over its handling of players and its fan-bases constant contempt.

No one said we were done being fans, but I hope at least you enjoy watching these games with Pressey or Nelson starting for now instead of Rondo who is actually worth watching. We are so much better off now, right? Pshh.

i feel you

people who have been around for decades will certainly feel differently, and they should. but you can't deny that there's a certain narcissism to all that loyalty talk. i was a celtics fan because of rondo and right now i feel like part of me is dying. but telling me and others who feel that way that we weren't even fans to begin with is just blatantly insulting and heartless. goodbye rondo, goodbye boston celtics.

Hope all these "fans" who are happy with this quickly realize the reality of what they just got into.

New players will arrive in the future. They'll be very talented and a joy to watch. It'll be good times all over again. It's just the interim period. That will suck.

I'll be skipping a lot of those games until Ainge gets some of those new young stars.

You support the shirt, not the players.

Door, ass. You can figure out the rest.

Also, for those who have simple minds - just because someone supports the trade doesn't mean they didn't like Rondo. Maybe they believe that both he and the team are better off parting ways at this time. I hope like hell Rondo wins the NBA Championship this year. The Mavs just became the team I'm rooting for come playoff time (assuming the Celtics aren't making it). But I'd be lying if I didn't say I'm also [dang] glad we're not playing the "where is Rondo going to sign" waiting game or even worse paying Rondo max money this offseason. Neither of those would be in the Celtics best interest.

The shirt's not worth a [dang] if the players suck.

I beg to differ. If you only want to support a contending team then why bother choosing a team to begin with. Just support whoever is doing well every year.

The club is bigger than its players.

+1

Im with you. Disgusted by the lack of Rondo appreciation on this thread and the constant whining which was getting ridiculous to read. Well you all got what you wanted - the Jameer Nelson era.

Rondo is better off.

This makes the trade a little less hurtful for me. With the way Rondo has been treated here, I'm kinda glad he can go somewhere else now where there's not to many expectations and a ton of blaming.

Still a fan though. Just agreeing with the lack of appreciation for Rajon.

It should be about the name in front of the jersey, not about the name on the back of it.  If this deal is all it takes for you stop being a fan, you were never a fan to begin with.

We were bad with Rondo.  WE will be bad without Rondo.

He was going to leave this summer anyways.  Good to get a late 1st.

It will take a little while, but eventually a lot of the homers who have overrated Rondo for years will start to see him for what he actually was.  I'll actually miss Rondo... but I will not miss my many debates where I stood by the fact that Rondo's trade value was minimal.   The debate is over... his trade value was minimal.

Wrong, a PG who leads the league in assists, big game player and clutch in the playoffs was worth more than a bag of balls. Ainge screwed this trade by waiting until this long when teams knew he had to make a move because he wasn't going to resign him. The Sac deal was much better than this, if Ainge looked to trade Rondo a year ago he gets more. Danny Ainge tried to play it to cute and he got burnt. [dang] he couldn't even get Dallas to give up a pick that wasn't protected lol. Ainge got bent over and it his own fault.
