I thought of Stockton, but with Hornacek instead.  Hornacek wasn't really at his peak then I think though.

The ones that came to mind were Magic+Michael Cooper, and Sam Jones + Havlicek.  But I'm sure there's at least one obvious one I'm missing.

Jones and Havlicek gives you no PG, so be save and go with Jones and Cousy.

Last answer best answer.

Anyway, Klay and Steph aren't even the best backcourt in Dubs history: Tim Hardaway and Mitch Richmond take those honors.

edit: and had their primes actually overlapped, Wade and Payton would've been something.

Don't think Oscar ever played with a great guard.  Positive Jordan didn't.  Kobe played with Payton one season but that doesn't really count since Payton was well off his prime.

Did you just say Bob Cousy wasn't a great guard?  On a Celtics forum?  ???

 :P

Haha, is that Cousy's notorious 6 games at 46 season?  Or whatever the exact numbers are.  If so, nice!  I stand corrected.
It's 7 games at 41 :P Total of 34 minutes in which he managed 10 assists and 3 shots -- an absolute Rondo line =)

Also, speaking of Cousy, we had one season of Cousy, Sam Jones, and Hondo. This one must have been pretty good ;)

What-ifs don't count, but man, Westbrook and Harden would probably look pretty solid right about now.

They might not even be #2.

(Actually, I don't think Sprewell and Hardaway got along too well, I just wanted an excuse to throw up a classic Slam cover).

Man, has Golden State ever strayed from Nellie Ball?  They've put together quite a few 40+ point backcourts over the last 20 years.

Hardaway/Richmond
Hardaway/Sprewell
Arenas/Richardson
Baron Davis/Monta Ellis/Richardson
Curry/Ellis
Curry/Thompson

Classic Slam covers always get the TP!

And, yeah, Golden State's long been one of my favorite teams to watch because of their backcourts (although Chris Webber was pretty astonishing, too).

ESPN must have forgotten Isaiah Thomas and Joe Dumars.

Yep, you beat me to it.  Geesh people, lol. ;D

Sidebar - I wonder how great a backcourt of Hardaway and Lewis would have been.  Sigh.

Magic and Byron Scott were pretty darn good. Richmond and Hardaway were too.

I'd at a minimum argue for Magic and Michael Cooper.  Probably should find room for either Cousy/Sam Jones or Sam Jones/Havlicek too, depending how much you care about positions.

Sneaky good backcourt = Gus Williams + Dennis Johnson with late 70s Sonics. Freddie Brown as well off the bench behind those two.
