We send out Bass, and either one of Sully or Kelly Olynyk, for Greg Monroe and filler. I'm thinking van Gundy might have a liking for Brandon Bass from their Orlando years, and Sullynyk are  pretty productive power forwards who complement Drummond way better than Monroe. Then again There's no hurry to trade for Monroe, who will be unrestricted o a year we have loads of cap space.

Monroe is going to be a restricted FA and I believe any team that trades for him does not gain his Bird Rights. Not worth the risk of including any sizable asset (sully or KO).

Monroe is going to be an unrestricted FA as he signed on to the qualifying offer

It seems fair, we may have to throw in a pick but it makes sense for both teams. I would only do it if we get a guarantee he signs an extension with us.

He is on a one-year contract.  Unless you are on a rookie scale contract (which Monroe is not), you are not allowed to sign an extension if your contract is three years or shorter.

Not sure if Sully will like coming off the bench for Monroe, if so, we can do a Sully + filler swap for Monroe (sign and trade)

Rondo/Bradley (or smart)/Green/Monroe/Zeller

that sounds like an upgrade to me

Monroe is a C.  That's why he doesn't fit in Detroit.

That gives us a boost this year, but we might lose him for nothing in FA.

Kelly Olynyk and 2 first round protected picks for Monroe.
Detroit isn't a contender right now, and could use the talent and picks to fix issues.
Monroe signs off making Boston a bigger force.
Boston has tons of picks over the next few season but a PG ready to win another ring.

Rondo, Bradley, Green, Sully, Monroe
Smart, Thornton, Turner, Bass, Zeller.
Find an elite SG and Boston can be a top 3 team again in the East
Can't stop, Rondo!

With their D, I hope we send out both KO and Sully at some point.  They simply can't be trusted on D.  Though both shine on offense, and Sully more than occasionally.

  • Everybody knows what's best for you
I know that Monroe deals have been floating around here for several years - and for good reason (he is a very good young center), but I am not sure everybody understands his situation this year.

For him, he loses his Bird rights if he agrees to a trade (he has a no-trade clause). All he needs to do is get through the next few months and he stands to gain the maximum amount of money possible - this may or may not come to fruition for him. He has no reason whatsoever to agree to any kind of trade.

For us, we are not contending anyway. Why would we want to give up any assets, especially first round picks and our prized PFs, just to be in the exact same situation next offseason when we can sign him without giving up any assets? There are those that will say that we will have the advantage since he [hopefully] he would have enjoyed playing in Boston, but as I said in the last paragraph, Monroe really has no reason to agree to a trade...anywhere, much less Boston.

Indeed, while Detroit played hardball in his RFA it isn't unlikely they'd accept somethin in a sign and trade when he's a FA if that scenario played out.

Timely, and required reading for any Monroe trade discussion.

Quote
Fine, Monroe might walk but we’d rather roll this dice and lose him for nothing than take inconsequential parts in a sign-and-trade, the Pistons’ front office believed. No trade will come on Monroe -- not with his veto power to maintain Bird Rights -- and he didn’t sign a one-year deal to delay his re-signing in Detroit. He’ll be highly valued on the available market. One more complete year together for Greg Monroe and the Pistons, moving in the direction of another lost season and an inevitable end.
