[T]here's no question that Rondo has regularly existed in his own universe when it comes to moving the rock. The Celtics' point guard led the NBA in assists in 2011-12 and '12-13, and he?s the early leader this season, with 11.6 per game. The NBA?s player tracking information further underscores Rondo's distinctiveness as a passer. Name a category and he tops it or comes close. Rondo?s 81.4 passes per game rank second to Chris Paul?s 83.9; no one else averages more than 71. Rondo?s 21.6 assist opportunities (the number of passes a player makes that could lead to an assist if the teammate scored) rank first by a considerable margin, as do his 27.1 points created by assists.

Paul is Rondo?s top competition as a passer. The Clippers? All-Star point guard has led the NBA in assists three times and has averaged 10 or more in four of the last eight seasons. However, never during his 10-year career has Paul registered more assists than field goal attempts. Rondo, meanwhile, is on pace to do exactly that for the third time (he also did it in 2010-11 and '11-12).

How rare is it for a player to be so pass-first that he actually records more assists than shot attempts? Only four players who have logged at least 20 minutes this season have pulled it off. Not surprisingly, Rondo is way ahead on that short list.

Same. Alien toes.

Also, from the article, the four players are :

Players with more assists than field goal attempts

• Rajon Rondo, Celtics: +11 in 266 minutes
• Ricky Rubio, Timberwolves: +3 in 144 minutes
• Ronnie Price, Lakers: +2 in 217 minutes
• Andre Miller, Wizards: +2 in 116 minutes

I take that as he should shoot more. He's trying to be unique and it's working there but why is he right to play this way and everyone else is wrong?

We have a higher winning percentage without Rondo than with him over the last three years.

Rondo ranked 29th and 26th in PER for all point guards over the last two years.

Trade him now, while he still has some value.

 2011-12
w/out
8 wins 5 losses
win percentage 62%

with
31 wins 22 losses
win percentage 58%

2012-13
w/out
21 wins 17 losses
win percentage 55%

with
20 wins 23 losses
win percentage 46%

2013-14
w/out
19 wins 33 loses
win percentage 36%

with
6 wins 24 losses
win percentage 20%

Seriously dude, you have this exact post (complete with plagarizing someone else's info) ready to copy and paste without any context every time this comes up, and you sort of gloriously ignore anyone that tries to explain why your post is, to put it kindly, mistaken.

And I don't even disagree with you -- I think if the C's are really looking to rebuild they'll probably have to move Rondo -- it's just that the way you present the information is so blunt as to be meaningless.

Rondo is rated number 26 among NBA point guards in PER this year.

He is a slightly below average point guard at this stage of his career.

PER's not a particularly good measurement for anything, though, and it's certainly not the one I would reach for to evaluate a player as shot-adverse as Rondo, since PER rewards shooting a lot (even if you miss, you'll still rate higher than if you didn't shoot at all).

For example, you can't seriously think that Isaiah Thomas and JJ Barea deserve to be in the conversation for the top 6 point guards in the league (they're ranked third and sixth, respectively), by PER.

You don't really think Dennis Schroeder (ranked 12) is a better point guard than John Wall (rank 13), do you?

and so on.

Thought so too.  Perhaps a thread that would intrigue Rex Ryan.

You're a complete joke kid. All you do is lurk around Celticsblog, just waiting for new Rondo threads to pop up so you can copy & paste your ignorant posts over and over again. And when nobody responds to your useless drivel, you just start your own troll threads about Rondo and continue posting the same two comments you posted in this thread over and over again until somebody responds. Are you not capable of thinking of something new or objective to say? I'm sick of seeing the same two posts from you in every single Rondo thread. Your entire post tally is made up of pure regurgitated nonsense.

Ah, so that is why he is prone to having sneakers fall off during games.

Yup and Zeller is top 9 among Centers at this stage of his career.  Right ahead of Ryan Hollins.

Has Rondo's PER been significantly higher in past years or something?

Also, Dirk is the second best PF in Dallas after Brandan Wright.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

9-28 on the season from the FT line is pretty impressive. It's really hard to shoot that poorly. In fact, you often see players make FT's when they're trying to miss intentionally late in games.

Of course not taking away from Dirk, but Brandon Wright has quietly become an extremely effective and efficient player.
