Of course on the night the Knicks play OKC, Westbrook makes his return.  ;D

The Knicks can't trade their pick this year until draft night, unless they get back a 1st in either this year's draft or next. If I were them, I'd think about keeping their pick, trading Melo, and starting over. Not a deal breaker, but one small embarrassment that could occur from that is watching Denver get the 2nd pick in next year's draft with NY being in the gutter. The thing is though, that could happen even if they kept Melo....
What you suggest makes sense in theory, but Jackson prefers to work with stars + everything they have said and done until now IMO points to the direction they are both tanking and keeping Melo.

Another angle to shutting down Melo, giving JR Smith the starting job, so he can see pat his stats and opt out of his contract. That would free the Knicks up another $6-7 Million going into the offseason where they'll already have a ton of cap space.
