Fun idea. Rumor is Spurs may have to trade Leonard in order to secure their next big. Monroe would be an excellent fit for the Spurs.   Pistons have a losing record again and The Drummond and Monroe upfront experiment has failed. Smith can easily slide to play the pf spot and Jeff Green would give the team a "natural" sf.  Pacers give up some promising prospects but get in return Rondo. Even though there is no guarantee Rondo resigns, they take a chance. When George comesback, it could be a tough team to play in the playoffs.   Lastly the Celts give up two key vets for last years finals Mvp.  One of the better defenders in the league and also a very good shooter/underrated scorer.  I like Lavoy Allen also. Good rebounder, would become our best shot blocker and has a nice mid range jump shot and a nice hook shot down low.  Has a body , tools and skills like Chris Bosh (but not as good) and still is young  (1989 born) and has room to develop, be more consistent.  Good trade for all teams involved?

Principal Pieces

To Spurs: Greg Monroe (signs extension), Donald Sloan, Copeland
To Pistons: Jeff Green, Solomon Hill
To Pacers: Rajon Rondo, Corey Joseph
To Celtics: Kawhi Leornard, Lavoy Allen, Pacers 1st

Spurs lineup

Duncan
Monroe
Diaw
Green
Parker

Pistons lineup

Drummond
Smith
Green
KCP
Jennings

Pacers lineup

Hibbert
West
George
Joseph
Rondo

Celtics lineup

Allen/Zeller
Sullinger/KO
Leonard/Young
Smart/Thornton
Turner/AB

Who do you want for Green and Rondo then?  Durant?

Leonard would be one heck of a return

It's Spurs trading Leonard for Monroe can't see that one ever happening.

Spurs are not a team that can function without a legit big man. Especially a big man with an above avg iq.  Sure right now in the regular season, Duncan can take a vacation. But against good teams or in the playoffs, having a big man like a Duncan or a well rounded big man like Monroe is important for their overall function. What happens when Duncan retires after this season?

Even though Leonard is a key player for their team, getting a guy that can replace Duncan will be a bigger deal.  They have Diaw, Danny Green and can turn no name wing/guard players to be able to play defense and shoot the ball

Another trade Rondo thread...

By the way every GM would take Leonard over Monroe any given day...

you would think.  Do you see the Spurs drafting guys like Drummond on their team? Or even JR Smith?  They have a different formula

They value high iq guys prob as their #1 criteria.   You see Monroe as just an ok big man.  But for the Spurs he would be a very nice addition.  His passing skills, above average iq would fit right in.

Monroe > Leonard for the Spurs after Duncan retires.   They have guys like Diaw, Green, Ginobelli etc. (its like a factory in how they can get no namers and turn them into good defensive and  jump shooting players) that can play in Leonards position.  But they won't have that one big man that can pull their man out, operate from the post, make good passes, set picks etc.  They don't even have to play superior defense, just be able to work with the system and have decent size.  Monroe would fit imo

They can have Monroe without trading Leonard. Monroe is an UFA next season. They only put off signing Leonard because it gives them flexibility on the FA market.

Also Pacers aren't giving up their lotto pick this year so Rondo can bolt in FA.

The idea that Ginobili (who's probably retiring after this season), Green, and Diaw can replace Kawhi Leonard as the primary wing despite the fact that not a single one of those guys has even remotely comparable athleticism to Leonard is beyond laughable.

Ask the Spurs how well it worked having a past-his-prime Richard Jefferson as their starting small forward.

Try this proposal a year from now if Duncan retires and Gasol stays in Memphis.  Reigning NBA champions don't blow their teams up for the hell of it.

No Monroe's not better and no Monroe wouldn't sign unless it's a max deal, and since SA wouldn't sign Leonard to a max deal there's no way they would do it for Monroe...

actually, no, it's not.

just curious, what's the purpose of this deal?
a) make the team much worse to increase their odds in the lottery (which seems to be what you'd like)
or
b) shipping out Rondo just because you can't stand him and want him gone just for the sake of getting rid of him
or
c) both a and b.
