I still think Hibbert could be the most attainable rim protector for us right now. A line up of Rondo, Bradley, Green, Sully, and Hibbert is a great step in the right direction. Hibbert, Rondo, and Green are a great core trio. Upgrade the SG slot in the starting lineup with a scorer and that's easily an eastern playoff team off the bat with more pieces to fill in towards contention.

Before we give up assets for a rim protector let's get a top ten player first.

The argument for getting a rim protector first could be if he was required to persuade a top-10 to sign here.

I agree. I think people don't always realize there is more than one way to build a team. If the celtics were to be viewed as a 6 seed in the playoffs with a lot of young and improving players, a star would be much more likely to join them in free agency or agree to a trade and extension than if the team is at 25 wins.

You could try that argument but it's really $ and a strong second star player that persuades a top FA.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
KO or Sully and a first rounder for Alex Len.

He fits the need and still very young, so he fits the rebuilding as well.

We have so many first round picks, its time we use one.

Ugh. I wish people would flush this whole ideology down the drain.

You don't think joining Rondo would have had more appeal for Love if Asik were already on the team, for example?

Any addition obviously helps appeal but giving up assets to be an more appealing team isn't smart. Get the big player first then add the pieces to make the team complete.  If you do it the other way around and don't get the top player you can end up mediocre as a 6-8 seed. Which is worse because rebuild has to start over again.

Agreed.

Right now the Cavs are stuck with all the talent you could ask for but no rim protection aside from Varejao. I think it makes more sense to lock it up before you find yourself stuck just outside of a great roster.

TP Smartacus.....as that is checkmate on that argument IMO.

Wait.  Let me process this.  We are trading either a 21.6 PER player (Sully) or an up and coming 16.5 PER player in Oly for a center that is averaging around 6 points, 5 rebounds and LESS than 1 block in 19 minutes per game??????????  I forgot to mention 3.2 fouls in 19 minutes for Len.

Seriously??  I would NEVER, EVER give up Sully for him straight up, much less include a first rounder!!!!!!!!!!!!!  They would have to give us a first rounder, at least!!!
