Dark days are ahead.

Per Daniel Artest, the Los Angeles Clippers have expressed interest in free agent forward Metta World Peace.

Clippers are interested in my brother. That’s all.

If you’re unfamiliar with Daniel Artest and the name wasn’t a dead giveaway, Daniel is the brother of the man formerly named Ron Artest. And because Daniel is Metta’s brother, he’s a reliable source.

Unless Doc Rivers has a time machine in his possession, signing Metta World Peace (whether tomorrow or in 2015 when 10-day contracts are an option) does nothing for this team. It’d be like giving a bandaid to an AIDS victim and telling them things are going to get better.

We’ve seen this before. Head coach Doc Rivers recruits former player who played well against him in the past: Hedo Turkoglu, Antawn Jamison, Byron Mullens, and now MWP.

In 2014, World Peace isn’t going to help this team much. He’s not the defender he was two or three years back and is an inconsistent outside shooter. If the Clippers wanted a player that’d fit the profile described above, they would’ve kept Jared Dudley or would give Chris Douglas-Roberts more minutes.

The Clippers’ interest in Metta World Peace brings an interesting perspective to light: As a championship contender, Doc Rivers would rather rely on a proven-yet-below-average veteran than groom a young player a la Reggie Bullock, a move that could benefit the team in the short-term and long-term. Looking at where this team is headed in the future salary-cap wise, the latter would be best for this team than the former.

If the Clippers do proceed to sign Metta World Peace, the Clippers would be forced to release a player as they’re currently have 15 players, the most allowed by team in the league.
