Someone recently proposed the idea that if Cleveland continues to be in disarray Kevin Love would opt out of his contract. To continue along that hypothetical, if Love and Gasol become UFAs after this season and would be open to signings with the Celtics, which would you prefer?

Before the season, I would have definitely said Love, but seeing our need for an interior defensive presence, I'd say Gasol, especially with the way he's playing now. Thoughts?

Marc Gasol all day, everyday. He improves this team dramatically on the defensive end and is a plus on the offensive end. Love simply improves the offense, but not dramatically as the double teams would come and there isn't  a go-to-scorer to pass it out to. Sully + Gasol would be just as potent on the boards as love, which kind of negates loves advantage there, plus no one is playing out of position.

Loves 3pt shooting is his only plus over Gasol and it just isn't that needed on the Celtics imho. I think love would be a perfect fit in golden state if they could find a way to replace lee with him. Celtics and Gasol would be perfect together if we can add a prolific wing scorer, that's a championship caliber team.

Love. Aside from the fact that he's already a better player, he's about four years younger.

Draft: 8 first rounders in next 5 years.

Cap space: $24 mil.

Gasol, elite defensive center who could protect the rim for us. He is a great player that solves the biggest problems the Celtics have.

I'm not sure Gasol would come here as a free agent unless we can bring in another good player to convince him that we are ready to win big, right now.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

It's a good question.

Close call but I'd probably go with Gasol.

He fits our need for a center and is a better defender than Love.

Plus offensively, it's not like there's a drop-off either.

So, I'd say Gasol

Love Love, but if I had to chose I'd go Marc.

Man is a gifted defender, can score, can pass, great teammate...plays with fire.

Watched him the other night close down the lane on TWO players, saving a layup. VERY smart Defender. Knows how to position himself.

He is KG-Like, to me.

My exact thoughts.  Love is probably a top 5 player, Gasol is maybe top 20.

gasol a hundred times over. only problem is he's 29 while love is 26. but versatile defensive generals like gasol don't come around often.

In a hypothetical alternate reality where Cleveland continues to struggle and Kevin Love decides to opt out and leave the Cavs, I say we just sign LeBron James (who is only signed for a single season).   That's no more far fetched.

Gasol would make better sense. As starting 5 would be Rondo, AB, Green, Sully,  Gasol. Bench would be Smart, Turner, Young, Olynyk, Zeller.
