He should payback some/all of the money he will never earn this season

Nah.  That's not how guaranteed contracts work.  Not his fault he got injured playing for the Lakers.  They'll be fine after insurance compensation kicks in.

Yeah why on earth would you ever want him to pay it back? The Buss family surely isn't sweating it, and it's not like the tee shirt vendors would see the money if Nash wasn't going to get it.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

Losing their pick (at some point) is going to hurt a heck of a lot more than the money. Sarver should publicly apologize to the Lakers in a chicken suit for selling them damaged goods. But will he? No, he won't.

I guess LA's medical staff is not at par as the Phoenix Sun's medical team;
Peavey Bass Player - relearning to play after 10 years sucks;

In the nba. In football it's a different story.  Your whole contract is not guaranteed from the start

To me this makes more sense. And if you do better than expected, there is a bonus kicker

I mean how many NBA players have we seen , play for their lives for the next contract and then become the next Mark Blount?   It's pathetic and kind of criminal if you ask me.  Seeing the owner and fans shake their head, i wouldn't even want to come and sit on the bench , its so embarrassing

Not stating Nash is doing the same thing, but the bottom line is you are getting paid to perform/produce results .   Yes there is insurance this insurance that, but i'm sure owners get screwed with that too (pay higher premiums).

I like the way football has their contract format set out

Forgive me if I'm not particularly sympathetic that a billionaire owner has to pay out some insurance premiums to ensure that a player who got hurt and suffered a career-ending/threatening injury while on the job for said owner is financially taken care of.

Such a shame Nash has to go out like this. He is such a competitor!
I suffered through nerve pain in my back for a couple of years, and it is not fun. I have no idea how he has pushed through the past few years.

Good luck to him

Since when is this news?
A few days ago, it was reported he could not play because he got back pains as he lifted his ... bag.
It's been clear for some time that Nash is over.

All of Nash's quotes have sounded optimistic until now.  He kept saying how he felt great all summer and that his back and body are in much better condition than they were last year.

Now the Lakers can make a bid for Rondo.  Win-Win?

Looks like the Lakers giving up all those picks for Nash in 2012 is turning into a bad investment.

Nash should sign a 1-day contract and retire as a Sun and say "I did that trade to help Phoenix."

When a player repeatedly says "I have no trouble with my X" the immediate translation is "his X is in big trouble"  ;D
